Phoenix Cyclops is announced DLC, not a base character
On October 7, 2026, Arc System Works producer Takeshi Yamanaka announced Phoenix Cyclops as the first Year 1 DLC character, with a scheduled release date of November 2, 2026. The announcement also names “Classic” and “Legacy” Cyclops costumes. Yamanaka’s PlayStation Blog post describes an all-rounder who combines long-range Optic Blasts with close-range strikes, Phoenix Force attacks, and a Solar Shards mechanic that enables a Dark Phoenix transformation after four shards.
The Year 1 Character and Stage Pass includes four additional characters and one additional stage. The official FAQ says the remaining pass content is expected by December 31, 2027; that is a planned availability window, not a statement that all content is currently available. The FAQ has the pass details.

What kind of fighting game is it?
PlayStation describes MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls as a 4v4 tag-team fighter developed in collaboration by PlayStation Studios, Arc System Works, and Marvel Games. Players build a four-character team around different abilities, playstyles, and team synergies. The announcement also says players can focus on mastering one character and choose traditional or simplified inputs; those are official feature descriptions, not a guarantee about competitive balance or individual accessibility needs. Read the announcement.
Beta roster versus launch roster
The Open Beta did not include the full launch lineup. PlayStation initially named 15 playable beta characters; a later update added Green Goblin, bringing the beta selection to 16. The complete base roster at launch is 20. The beta post also listed six beta stages—Marvel’s New York (Day), Savage Land, X-Mansion, Knowhere, Wakanda, and Marvel’s New York (Night)—which should not be mistaken for a confirmed complete launch-stage list.
