What the box-office figures do—and don’t—say
The Numbers lists the production budget as $3 million. Comparing that reported budget with ticket grosses alone does not establish profit: box-office gross is not the same as money retained by the filmmaker, and the figures cited here do not account for distribution costs, theater shares, or other expenses. The Associated Press also described the film as costing $3 million and reported a $31.2 million total after two weeks; that was a contemporary snapshot, not the current cumulative figure. What is Iron Lung about?
Iron Lung is an independently made adaptation of David Szymanski’s 2022 submarine horror game. Its premise follows a convict sent to investigate a blood ocean on a desolate moon from inside a small submarine called the Iron Lung. Regal’s December 10, 2025 release announcement says Mark Edward Fischbach—known online as Markiplier—wrote, directed, and edited the film, and appeared in the cast. Regal’s announcement described the project and its release.
Regal also attributed increased moviegoer demand for a theatrical booking to the film’s online trailers. That is the exhibitor’s characterization, not a separately measured audience statistic. The Numbers lists the film’s running time as 127 minutes and its rating as R for language, bloody images, and some gore.

The Numbers lists January 30, 2026 as the wide domestic release date and May 31, 2026 as a video release by YouTube. In a February 3, 2026 livestream, Fischbach said, “We’re still doing it independently from start to finish,” as reported by GamesRadar+. The same report said he expected the film to leave theaters in about a week and that preparations for DVD, Blu-ray, and purchase options were underway.
