Why Lizzie dies
After a gunshot goes off beside her, Lizzie loses part of her hearing. She later runs toward a vehicle while searching for a first-aid kit and trying to call for help. Unable to hear the approaching Dark Hearts vehicle, she is struck and killed.
How Robbie dies
Robbie confronts Jayson, the gang member responsible for his brother’s death. Jayson stabs him. Tom reaches Robbie and tries to get him to a hospital, but Robbie dies on the way.

What Mark Ruffalo says about Tom’s reaction to Robbie
ComingSoon attributes the remarks below to Ruffalo in an Entertainment Weekly interview. The original interview wording has not been independently verified, so these quotations should be understood as reproduced in ComingSoon’s report.
Ruffalo’s explanation is that Tom understands Robbie’s motives: “He understands why he’s doing what he does.” He also describes Tom’s view of Robbie as “a good man who made bad choices in bad circumstances,” and calls compassion Tom’s “superpower.” The remarks frame Tom’s attempt to save Robbie not as approval of his actions, but as empathy for the person and circumstances behind them. What Lizzie’s death means for Grasso
In the same ComingSoon report, creator Brad Ingelsby says Lizzie’s death leaves Grasso with “a tremendous amount of guilt.” Grasso believed he could manage both sides, but Ingelsby says “now the house of cards has fallen down.” The loss becomes a consequence of the choices that helped the gang escape and pushes Tom and Aleah toward finding out what happened.
What happens to Robbie’s money plan?
Robbie has arranged a fallback: the gang is misdirected by a bag containing real-estate pamphlets, while the real cash reaches Maeve. The plan is meant to give Maeve and the children a chance at a better life. That reveal complicates the deaths without undoing their consequences: Robbie’s intentions and Tom’s sympathy coexist with the harm caused by his decisions.
