Yes. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment’s December 22, 2025 announcement identifies Marionette as one of the fan-favorite animatronics brought to life on screen, alongside Mangle. That confirms the character’s presence in the movie, not what Marionette does, wants, or represents in its plot. Universal’s home-video announcement describes a behind-the-scenes feature about the animatronics’ screen creation; it is not a plot explanation.
What is Marionette’s story in the movie?
The official synopsis does not give Marionette a complete, character-specific backstory. Universal says the sequel takes place one year after the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The events that follow begin when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, after Mike and Vanessa have kept the truth from her. What does the 2014 game establish about the FNAF 2 era?
The game is useful context, but it is a separate continuity from the movie. Scott Cawthon’s official Steam listing dates Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 to November 10, 2014, and describes a security guard keeping watch overnight. Players monitor cameras as older animatronics are joined by a new cast; a Freddy head serves as a defensive mechanic. The official Steam listing establishes that premise and gameplay framing, not a one-to-one blueprint for the film.
The film’s synopsis instead frames its story as a sequel to the first movie, centered on Abby’s attempt to reconnect with the animatronics and the secrets that action brings to light. Universal credits Emma Tammi as director and Scott Cawthon as writer, with Jason Blum and Cawthon as producers. Josh Hutcherson plays Mike, Elizabeth Lail plays Vanessa, and Piper Rubio plays Abby.
