Yes, a report says Mario Kart toys are returning to McDonald’s Happy Meals in Australia. The catch is location: that report describes an Australian promotion, not a worldwide release. McDonald’s official sources reviewed here do not confirm the exact Australian toy lineup or campaign dates, so those details should be treated as reported rather than officially verified.
What the reported return means
The May 17, 2025 report says the Mario Kart Happy Meal toys are returning at McDonald’s restaurants in Australia and look familiar from an earlier release. It does not establish that the promotion is available in other countries or that it is currently running. Read the report.
The report is secondary coverage. The official McDonald’s sources available for comparison do not confirm the specific Australian Mario Kart toys or their dates. Check with McDonald’s in Australia for current local promotion information before making a trip.
Mario Kart toys have appeared in other markets
Australia is not the only market with a documented Mario Kart Happy Meal promotion. McDonald’s Malaysia’s official archive lists “Race into Fun with Mario Kart Happy Meals!” on November 29, 2024, and says customers could collect exclusive Mario Kart toys with each Happy Meal. That is evidence of a separate Malaysian promotion, not proof of the Australian campaign’s schedule or availability. See McDonald’s Malaysia’s archive.

Other Super Mario Happy Meals are different promotions
Not every Super Mario toy campaign is a Mario Kart release. McDonald’s Australia announced 12 toys made from 100% renewable materials for The Super Mario Bros. Movie promotion, available nationally from December 15 through January 25, 2022–23, or while stocks lasted. That historical movie campaign does not confirm details of the reported Mario Kart return. See McDonald’s Australia’s announcement.
In the United States, McDonald’s announced a separate Super Mario Galaxy Movie Happy Meal campaign beginning March 26, 2026, featuring 12 character clip toys. These are movie-themed clips, not evidence of a Mario Kart toy promotion. See McDonald’s U.S. announcement.

Availability and buying separately depend on location
Happy Meal promotions and stock are local. McDonald’s UK says promotional toys may be sold separately in its restaurants, subject to stock and that promotion’s Fair Ordering Policy. That UK guidance does not establish whether Australian restaurants will sell Mario Kart toys separately. Read McDonald’s UK’s guidance.
For the Australian promotion, the available evidence does not establish separate-sale rules, participating locations, or remaining stock. Ask a local restaurant or consult McDonald’s Australia’s current promotion information for those specifics.
