Where did Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco get married?
Vogue’s April 9, 2019 account places the ceremony on Friday afternoon at the couple’s home in Rye, New York. The celebration later moved to Manhattan, where guests gathered at The Grill and The Pool. That distinction matters: the ceremony was at home in Rye; The Grill was the setting for the reception, not the wedding ceremony. Vogue’s detailed account describes both parts of the day.
What did the couple wear?
Marc Jacobs’s black tuxedo
Jacobs wore a black tuxedo. Vogue reported that the suit’s shoulders were crafted by Huntsman cutter Ralph Fitzgerald, and that Jacobs paired it with custom Gucci Chelsea boots and David Webb cufflinks. These were reported as specially made or crafted elements, not simply off-the-rack outfit recommendations.
Char Defrancesco’s emerald velvet
Defrancesco wore an emerald-green velvet look Vogue described as a Huntsman creation, with custom Christian Louboutin shoes. The rich velvet and Jacobs’s black tailoring gave the pair contrasting looks while keeping the ceremony and reception’s fashion focus firmly on them.

The penguin pins
Both wore matching Art Deco diamond-and-onyx penguin pins. Vogue reported that the pins were a gift from Prada design director Fabio Zambernardi; the penguins were described as symbols of fidelity. Defrancesco wore one of the pair’s pins with the green velvet ensemble.
Who attended the Manhattan reception?
Vogue’s April 7 report named guests from fashion and entertainment, including Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Gigi and Bella Hadid, Rita Ora, Lil’ Kim, and Anna Wintour. What happened at the reception?
The celebration at The Grill and The Pool included a five-tier cake by Ron Ben-Israel, flowers, dancers, caviar bars, and a video montage. British Vogue also reported that guests received sweatshirts embroidered with two cuddling otters and the words “don’t float away.”
Vogue’s April 9 account included remarks from both men. It quoted Jacobs telling Defrancesco, “Char, my love, in my darkest, loneliest moment you came into my life like some giant happy face,” and describing “the dream of the happy forever.” Defrancesco, in turn, was quoted as saying, “I vow to try my best to make you smile every day.” These are remarks as reproduced in Vogue’s report.
