“Raw manga” usually means manga in its original Japanese presentation, not anime video—and “raw” does not tell you whether a website is official. The title “best free website” is not supported by a verified comparison. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus is a documented official, free option, but its catalog and chapter availability have limits. Check a service’s publisher, language, regional access, and chapter coverage before choosing it.
What “raw manga” means—and what it doesn’t
In the context of the 2023 article The Next Hint published under this title, “raw” refers to manga in Japanese or an unedited presentation. It is not the same as an English translation, and it is not anime video. Most importantly, the word does not establish that a site has permission to publish the manga.
What is known about MangaRaw?
The site at mangaraw.la currently identifies itself as Mangaraw and displays Japanese-language chapter listings, rankings, and recent updates. That describes this particular page, not every site using the MangaRaw name. The page inspected does not identify a verified operator or establish that the displayed works are licensed. The available evidence also does not establish whether this domain is operated by the same entity discussed in the 2023 article.
There is no substantiated basis for calling MangaRaw the universal “best” free service. A useful comparison depends on more than whether pages are accessible: consider who operates the service, which publishers it covers, the language, chapter completeness, regional availability, cost, and the schedule for each series.

A documented free and official option: MANGA Plus
Shueisha describes MANGA Plus as official and free in its FAQ, which says: “This service is completely official.” That makes it a verifiable alternative for readers interested in Shueisha titles, but not a complete library of all manga publishers.
- Catalog: It carries Shueisha comics; it does not claim to cover every publisher.
- Chapter access: Some series offer selected opening episodes and the latest episodes rather than a complete archive. Check the series page for the chapters actually available.
- Region: Some comics may not be displayed in certain locations because of licensing.
- Release timing: Shueisha gives general Japan Time guidance—Weekly Shonen Jump comics basically update at 5 a.m., and other comics at midnight—but schedules can change. The individual comic page is the better guide to a particular title’s next update.
- Creator support: Shueisha says proceeds from the service are passed on to artists.
How to choose a service for Japanese manga
- Look for an identifiable publisher or licensed operator. A site name or the word “official” in a listing is not, by itself, proof of authorization.
- Confirm language and title coverage. Check whether the series is in Japanese or a licensed translation, and which publishers’ works the service carries.
- Inspect chapter availability for the series you want. A service may provide only selected chapters, or access may differ by title.
- Check access in your location. Licensing can affect which titles or chapters appear in a particular region.
- Review the title’s own schedule and terms. General platform schedules can change and may not apply to every series.

What the legal evidence does—and doesn’t—show
A Japanese court decision concerning other manga websites described more than 4,000 titles distributed free with “Raw-Free” labels and domain watermarks. In that case, the court said those circumstances made it obvious that the websites were pirated. The decision concerns the specific sites and evidence in that dispute; it is not a ruling about mangaraw.la, and the word “raw” alone does not establish infringement. Read the English-language court decision for its actual scope.
