The update about American Idol alum Mandisa’s death was reported on June 4, 2024: the Los Angeles Times said an autopsy report listed complications of class III obesity as the cause of death and classified the manner as natural. The same report said Mandisa was last known alive approximately three weeks before she was found. She was found dead at her Tennessee home on April 18, 2024, according to the Los Angeles Times.
What did police say, and was foul play suspected?
On April 23, 2024, while the investigation was still underway, Franklin police said there was no indication then of suspicious or criminal activity. Department public information manager Max Winitz told the Los Angeles Times, “At this time, there is no indication the death was the result of suspicious or criminal activity.” This was an interim statement, not the later autopsy determination.

When did the investigation update come out?
- April 18, 2024: Mandisa was found dead at her Tennessee home, as later reported by the Los Angeles Times.
- April 23, 2024: The Los Angeles Times reported that Franklin police were continuing to investigate and saw no indication at that point of suspicious or criminal activity.
- June 4, 2024: The Los Angeles Times reported the autopsy findings, including the cause and manner of death.
These are 2024 reports. The June finding should not be confused with the earlier police update, which described what authorities had said while the investigation was ongoing.
