What is confirmed about the Magic Tree House series?
The announced adaptation is an animated series based on Mary Pope Osborne’s children’s books. Variety reported on December 10, 2025 that Spuree is developing the project with Rideback as producer. Osborne is attached as a creative partner.

Those are broad plans; no specific service or buyer is named.
When will it come out, and where can you watch it?
There is no announced premiere date or named streaming platform. The official series website says “coming soon” and invites visitors to subscribe for early looks and news, but does not list a date, platform, cast or episode count. “Coming soon” is not a scheduled release window.

Why does the headline say 33 years?
The book series debuted in 1992, according to Variety’s 2025 adaptation report. The 33-year interval refers to the time from that debut to the animated-series announcement in December 2025—not to the show’s release. The series has been announced as in development; the available sources do not establish that episodes have aired.
Who is involved in the adaptation?
- Mary Pope Osborne: author of the books and creative partner on the series.
- Will Osborne and Jenny Laird: writers named in the announcement report.
- Randy Courts: composer for original music.
- Spuree and Rideback: Spuree is developing the project, with Rideback named as producer.
Variety quoted Osborne saying she had been looking for an adaptation that would give her “a real seat at the table,” and that the arrangement lets her bring a handpicked creative team along to make a series that feels true to the books’ spirit.
What is the series based on?
The adaptation is based on Osborne’s Magic Tree House books, which follow Jack and Annie on adventures through time and history. Penguin Random House’s series catalog lists the books and their available formats. Readers looking to start with the original chapter-book series can begin with Dinosaurs Before Dark, the first book.
Is this connected to the 2016 Lionsgate film plan?
Not according to the available announcements. In February 2016, Lionsgate said it had acquired rights and was developing multiple live-action films, as described in its press release. The 2025 announcement concerns an animated series with Spuree and Rideback; neither source says the new project continues or replaces the earlier film plan.
