The discussion concerned Jack’s relationship before filming, not a verified finding about what happened between him and Courtney. Jack and Courtney described the relationship and breakup differently in interviews reported in February 2024.
How Jack described the relationship and breakup
In the interview reported by PerthNow, Jack called it “a bit of a casual relationship” and said he did not believe he was in a serious relationship when he applied for the show. He put it this way: “I can assure you, when I was applying for MAFS to get married, I, in my opinion, I was not in a serious relationship at all, whatsoever.”

Jack said he first told Courtney he had work to do in Sydney. He then said he regrettably told her he was going overseas for a few months and that the door was shut. Those are Jack’s descriptions of what he told her.
In a separate interview with Pedestrian.TV, Jack characterized the relationship as three months and casual. He said he had told Courtney he cared for her and had love for her, and that he had used the word “love” only once. He also said he had been communicating with her until shortly before meeting Tori, though he was not responding to her messages.
Jack said he returned to Victoria to say goodbye to his dying grandmother and had asked Courtney to accompany him for support, not to meet his family. He told Pedestrian.TV: “As soon as I got to know Tori and we knew each other’s last name, I was going to essentially tell her our situation — we had a three-month casual relationship, it ended and I’m here now, fully invested.”
What Courtney Jade’s reported account said
PerthNow attributed Courtney’s comments to The Wash. In that reported account, Courtney said she was dating Jack and that he broke up with her a week after she flew to Melbourne and met his family. She said he told her he was moving to America for “work opportunities,” and that she learned from a friend he was in Sydney on Married at First Sight.
Pedestrian.TV also reproduced an Instagram statement attributed to Courtney that described the breakup after she met his family and the explanation about work opportunities in America. These are Courtney’s reported statements; they are not independently corroborated findings. They conflict with Jack’s characterization of the relationship and his account of the circumstances, and the available coverage does not resolve the disagreement.

When Tori learned about the ex
Tori said she learned about Courtney two or three days into the honeymoon and was prepared for the story to surface. In Pedestrian.TV’s interview, she said: “We had this conversation [about the ex] maybe two or three days into our honeymoon, so I was well abreast of the situation regarding this person, so it wasn’t a shock to me at all.”
In the breakfast television interview reported by PerthNow, Tori said she had many questions and that Jack answered them clearly: “I had a million questions, and Jack answered every single one of them with clarity.” She said they had dealt with the issue before the dinner party, so it was a non-issue for them at that point.
What the February 2024 coverage establishes—and what it does not
The reports establish that Jack and Tori addressed questions about his pre-show relationship in February 2024, and record their own descriptions alongside Courtney’s account as reported by other outlets. They do not independently settle how serious the relationship was, exactly what Jack told Courtney, or the precise circumstances of their breakup. The phrase “set the record straight” in coverage headlines should not be read as proof that the competing accounts were reconciled.
