Maddie Ziegler did not appear in Lifetime’s Dance Moms: The Reunion, a two-hour special that premiered May 1, 2024. The trailer coverage identifies her as absent, but the available sources do not include a statement from Maddie explaining why she did not take part.
Watch the trailer and see who reunited
Lifetime’s official guide billed the reunion as a two-hour special, with a May 1, 2024 premiere at 8/7c and app streaming beginning May 2. The six participants Lifetime named were JoJo Siwa, Chloe Lukasiak, Brooke Hyland, Paige Hyland, Kendall Vertes, and Kalani Hilliker. Maddie was not among them. Lifetime’s official guide has the event details, while TVLine’s March 6, 2024 trailer report identifies Maddie as absent.
What JoJo Siwa said about the absent cast members
In the trailer, JoJo commented on cast members who were not there: “Them not being here is kind of like, ‘Let me erase my past. Pretend it never happened. Shove it down the drain,’ when it’s like, that’s why you are who you are.” That was JoJo’s perspective about the absences; it does not establish Maddie’s reason for skipping the reunion.
What Mackenzie Ziegler said about her own decision
In a July 26, 2024 interview with Cosmopolitan, Maddie’s sister Mackenzie explained why she chose not to attend. She said: “Personally, I just dealt with a lot of trauma from that show and I have the worst anxiety from it.” Mackenzie added that she would have liked to be with the girls, but did not want to watch a traumatic part of her life on television when it felt far behind her. She also said she felt no need to keep discussing a show from her childhood.

Mackenzie was describing her own experience. Her interview does not give Maddie’s personal explanation, so it should not be treated as the reason Maddie was absent. Read Mackenzie’s interview with Cosmopolitan.
