The “Upside Down Invasion: Stranger Things” float made its debut at the 99th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on November 27, 2025. The Demogorgon’s appearance followed the release of the first four Stranger Things 5 episodes the previous day, giving the parade a timely tie-in to the series’ final season. Macy’s described the creature as an escapee from containment, animated by one puppeteer with 13 axes of motion.
What was the Demogorgon float at the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?
Netflix presented the float under the official name “Upside Down Invasion: Stranger Things.” In Macy’s official parade lineup, the scene depicts a Demogorgon breaking out of containment. Macy’s says one puppeteer animated the creature, which had 13 axes of motion. The listed accompanying performance was by Foreigner.
Before the parade, Macy’s creative production director Brendan Kennedy told Parade, “I think a wow moment will definitely be Stranger Things.” That was Kennedy’s prediction, not a measured ranking of audience favorites. The available audience figures cover the parade as a whole, not the float specifically.
How the float connected to the Stranger Things 5 release
The first four episodes of Stranger Things 5 became available on November 26, 2025, one day before the float appeared. Netflix’s release schedule placed three more episodes on Christmas Day and the finale on New Year’s Eve.

When and where could viewers watch the 2025 parade?
The parade took place on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 27, and its main telecast began at 8:30 a.m. across time zones on NBC and Peacock. Macy’s also listed an encore at 2 p.m. ET/PT and a Telemundo simulcast. Those are the broadcast details for the 2025 event, not a schedule for future parades.

The float’s presence was part of a live, televised parade, but the reported ratings do not isolate viewers who watched it. NBCUniversal reported 34.3 million viewers across NBC and Peacock, a record combined audience for the parade. It also reported 25.4 million viewers for the original NBC airing and a linear peak of 30.2 million between 11 and 11:15 a.m. NBCUniversal described its Nielsen figures as preliminary and subject to change.

“Steals the show” works as subjective headline language for a visually distinctive float timed to the new season. It is not an established audience verdict: no float-specific viewership or popularity measure was reported in the cited coverage. The concrete case for its prominence is the parade’s official Stranger Things-branded float, its animated Demogorgon, and its close timing to the season’s first episode release.
