When and where did Mac Miller die?
Miller was found unresponsive at his home in Studio City on September 7, 2018, and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:51 a.m., according to the county medical examiner. He was 26.
Why early reports differed
Early news accounts described a suspected overdose while the investigation was still underway. The autopsy took place the day after Miller’s death, but the cause was initially deferred pending further investigation. The later medical examiner determination—not the preliminary descriptions—establishes the official cause and manner.

What the later federal case alleged
In October 2019, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced that a federal grand jury had charged three men in a case concerning the alleged distribution of counterfeit pills containing fentanyl. The DEA said court documents alleged that narcotics were distributed to Miller about two days before his death. Those were allegations described in a charging announcement, not the medical examiner’s determination of cause or manner. The cited announcement does not establish later procedural outcomes. Miller was a Pittsburgh-born rapper, songwriter, and producer known for work that moved between playful material and candid introspection.
