Why Lukas calls the song timeless
Lukas is struck by the song’s writing and imagery, which he describes as carrying the weight of something older than an ordinary song. In the transcript, he says: “There’s an authority to it. There’s a sense of it coming from . . . It sounds more like an ancient text than it does a song.” The remark captures the episode’s central question—“What’s so cool about ‘I Never Cared for You’?”—without reducing the answer to a technical breakdown: for Lukas, the words seem vivid and enduring.
His memory of the Teatro sessions
Lukas recalls being nine when Willie recorded the Teatro version with producer Daniel Lanois. He remembers his father’s excitement about singing harmonies with Emmylou Harris, and recalls Willie admiring how Harris could follow his phrasing. These are Lukas’s memories as shared in the interview; the episode presents them as a child’s perspective on a family recording session, not as a studio log or independent account of every detail.

Lukas describes Willie as a normal person who does not rely on pretense. That is his perspective in the interview, rather than an independent biographical conclusion.
