Ludwig is a British comedy-drama mystery about a puzzle setter who takes his missing identical twin’s place—and turns his knack for solving puzzles toward police cases. Rotten Tomatoes showed the series at 93% with critics and 79% with audiences when checked on October 4, 2026. In the U.S., BritBox listed season one and announced season two for October 13, 2026.
What is Ludwig about?
John Taylor is a reclusive puzzle setter whose identical twin, James, disappears. John assumes James’s identity and steps into the life of a Cambridge detective chief inspector, using his puzzle-solving instincts as he navigates police work, colleagues and a family he does not know in the same way James does.
The premise blends crime-solving with an intentionally unlikely identity swap. BritBox describes the show as a “genre-bending mystery” and a “comedy detective series.” The series was created and written by Mark Brotherhood and stars David Mitchell as John and Anna Maxwell Martin as Lucy Betts-Taylor.
What does the 93% Rotten Tomatoes score mean?
It is the series’ critics’ Tomatometer, not its audience score. Rotten Tomatoes displayed the following figures on October 4, 2026; its listing is dynamic, so scores and rating counts can change:
