Several of Lucha Underground’s best-known performers went on to major careers in WWE and AEW, while others remain remembered for the show’s distinctive characters and storylines. This is an editorial selection of ten prominent performers—not a measured popularity ranking: the available sources provide no comparable audience figures or definitive top-ten list.
How this list is selected
The ten performers below were chosen for their prominence in Lucha Underground’s stories, championships or standout attractions, together with the recognition of their later careers and the ability to describe their current status from the available sources. The order is not a ranking. Ring names have changed over time, so each entry connects the Lucha Underground identity with the name used in a later career.
Where are Lucha Underground’s wrestlers now?
1. Prince Puma (Ricochet)
Prince Puma was one of Lucha Underground’s signature in-ring identities. The performer later known as Ricochet is now listed on AEW’s official roster. Forbes reported on February 11, 2026, that he moved to AEW after WWE, led The Demand, and became the inaugural AEW National Champion. AEW’s roster and Forbes’ February 2026 profile document his later career.
2. Pentagon Jr. (Penta)
Pentagon Jr. became widely known as Penta after Lucha Underground. He and Rey Fénix are brothers, and the pair built tag-team success after their runs on the show. WWE’s profile says Penta arrived on Raw on January 13, 2025, and records the Intercontinental Championship among his career highlights. That profile also describes a title win and defenses, including a WrestleMania 42 ladder match; championship status can change, so the current WWE profile is the source to check for the latest details.

4. Killshot (Swerve Strickland)
Killshot was the Lucha Underground identity of Swerve Strickland. His career after the show led him to AEW, where he is listed on the official roster. Wrestling Inc. recounts his rise after Lucha Underground and identifies him as the performer behind Killshot in its retrospective.

5. Johnny Mundo (John Morrison)
Johnny Mundo was a central Lucha Underground character and a familiar face to wrestling viewers from earlier work under other names. Wrestling Inc. includes him among the show’s stars in its retrospective. The sources available for this article do not establish a reliable present-day roster or affiliation for him, so this entry is about his place in Lucha Underground rather than a claim about his current employer.
6. Brian Cage
Brian Cage was one of the recognizable power-based attractions associated with the series. In a May 2021 interview on the Jobbing Out podcast, Cage recalled: “I remember the last time I was part of something that kind of slowly took the wrestling world by storm was Lucha Underground, which is still one of my favourite times in wrestling. I absolutely loved it there.” ITR reported the interview and attributes the statement to Cage; it reflects his personal recollection, not an audience measurement. ITR’s retrospective provides the context.

7. Mil Muertes
Mil Muertes stood out as one of the show’s imposing supernatural characters. ITR includes him among the performers it revisits, and Wrestling Inc. also discusses the show’s notable stars. The sources used here do not verify a current wrestling affiliation for the character’s performer, so it would be misleading to give a present-tense employer or career update.
8. Sexy Star
Sexy Star was another prominent Lucha Underground identity, notable for the series’ interwoven character-driven presentation. ITR includes her in its retrospective roster of performers. The sources available here do not establish her current in-ring status, so her inclusion reflects her prominence on the show rather than a verified current career update.

9. Taya (Taya Valkyrie)
Taya was among the performers whose Lucha Underground role helped make the show’s roster feel distinct from a conventional wrestling card. ITR names her among the wrestlers it revisits. The sources used for this article do not provide a sufficiently current, verified account of her affiliation to state where she works now.
10. Vampiro
Vampiro’s place in Lucha Underground was different from that of a standard roster wrestler: he provided commentary, and his role in Pentagon’s story included an in-story reveal. Wrestling Inc. discusses both his connection to the show and that storyline. This makes him a memorable figure in the series, though the available sources do not establish a current wrestling role. Wrestling Inc.’s retrospective covers the connection.

What happened to Lucha Underground’s best-known names?
The clearest present-day career updates in the sources are for Penta and Rey Fénix in WWE, and Ricochet and Swerve Strickland in AEW. The rest of the list reflects the show’s memorable cast, but the sources cited here do not provide equally current, verifiable employer updates for every performer. Lucha Underground’s screen names can also obscure how careers continued under different identities: Prince Puma became Ricochet, Killshot is Swerve Strickland, and Pentagon Jr. is commonly known as Penta.
Was there an objective top ten?
No comparable popularity statistic or authoritative ranking is established by the sources cited here. Lucha Underground retrospectives offer useful candidate pools and historical context, but they do not prove a measured ranking by audience size, merchandise sales or another shared metric. The ten names above should therefore be read as prominent and memorable performers, not the definitive ten most popular wrestlers.
Why the show remains part of their career stories
For performers such as Ricochet, Penta, Fénix and Swerve Strickland, Lucha Underground is an earlier chapter in careers that continued in prominent promotions. For others, its lasting significance is tied to a character or storyline remembered by viewers. Cage’s recollection of the series as a particularly meaningful period in his career offers one performer’s perspective on that legacy; it should not be mistaken for a measure of the show’s audience.
