Taylor Krause said her past dating experiences as an Asian woman shaped her choice not to disclose her ethnicity during the pod-stage conversations on Love Is Blind. She wanted a potential match to get to know her before making assumptions about her appearance or preferences—and said that choice was not an expression of shame about being Asian.
Why Taylor kept her ethnicity out of the pods
In a POPSUGAR conversation with features editor Yerin Kim, Krause described herself as half-Chinese and half-white. She said she wanted to remove ethnicity from the initial dating equation, in keeping with how she understood the show’s premise: “I wanted to take it out of the equation and it’s called ‘Love is Blind,’ so that’s kind of part of the assignment anyway.”
She was concerned that identifying as Asian could lead a prospective match to picture her before they met or decide in advance whether they were attracted to Asian women. Krause said her mother’s name, Fong, could also prompt someone to infer her background, so she did not see her choice as a dramatic secret. She stressed that she was not ashamed of her identity and did not want other Asian people to read her decision that way.
How past dating experiences informed that choice
Krause recalled hearing comments about being “exotic” and people describing Asian or half-Asian women as their preference. She said, “Especially Asian women tend to be fetishized.” In her account, those experiences made it important to avoid having ethnicity shape a connection before a match had met her.

That is Krause’s personal explanation, not a claim that all Asian women approach dating the same way. Her account draws a distinction between a person being interested in her as an individual and approaching her through assumptions about Asian women.
What Krause said about being called “calculated”
Krause said Garrett’s description of her as “calculated” hurt while she was vulnerable and falling for him. She recalled being careful about what she said on camera and feeling uncomfortable with constant filming. In retrospect, she thought he may have chosen a poor word for what he had also described as her guardedness.

That interpretation is Krause’s reflection on the exchange; the interview does not provide the full, unedited conversation. She also said it mattered to her that a partner understand they had different lived experiences. She wanted her feelings validated, rather than being told how she should feel, and described this as important in her relationship with Garrett—not as an independently established account of his views.
Her takeaway from the argument about an ex’s text
Discussing the argument over a text from an ex, Krause said she stood by her opinion but did not like how she handled the moment. She framed the disagreement as an opportunity to communicate boundaries and talk through concerns involving former relationships. Her account emphasizes the conversation between partners, rather than suggesting there is one universal rule for handling contact from an ex.
