What happens in Cabo?
The couples begin the episode in Mexico, taking outings together: Marissa and Ramses go on a boat excursion, Alex and Tim ride ATVs, Ashley and Tyler ride camels, Nick and Hannah go bungee jumping, and Taylor and Garrett attend a glass-blowing class. The activities provide a lighter backdrop, but being engaged does not mean that every couple sees ordinary expectations the same way.
Monica and Stephen disagree about gift-giving
Monica and Stephen talk about what they expect from gift-giving. Later, when the group gathers for drinks and fireworks, Monica is upset that Stephen is not watching the fireworks with her. The episode presents a modest but telling mismatch: the issue is not only a present, but what attentiveness looks like to each of them.

Why does the return to Washington, D.C. matter?
The Cabo outings give way to daily life as the couples return to Washington, D.C., move into shared living spaces, and begin meeting one another’s families. The change puts the relationships in a less insulated setting, where practical routines and family impressions can test what the couples have promised each other.
Taylor meets Garrett’s parents
Taylor meets Garrett’s parents and reassures them that she takes the relationship seriously. Their meeting brings the episode’s title into focus: commitment is being communicated not just between the engaged couple, but also to the people whose approval and understanding matter to them.

What is unresolved between Marissa and Ramses?
Marissa and Ramses discuss wedding expectations and religion before turning to a more difficult subject: Marissa’s Navy service and Ramses’ response to it. The disagreement becomes the episode’s most consequential conversation because it touches on how they understand each other’s values, rather than a single social preference. TIME describes the exchange as unusually substantive for the series, an assessment by that publication rather than an objective measure.
TIME quotes Marissa saying, “I don’t hate religion,” and quotes Ramses saying, “I don’t think he’s gonna judge me for having questions.” The Things’ recap quotes Marissa telling him, “I know you don’t like my military service.” These are quotations as reproduced by those outlets, not a verified official transcript. TIME also notes that the discussion continues in later episodes; here, the disagreement remains tense and unresolved.

The scene is about the couple’s own experiences and conflict, not a guide to military policy. TIME cautions that it does not provide enough specificity or factual rigor to educate viewers on that subject, so the exchange should not be treated as an authoritative account of military service.
