Love Hurts turns an ordinary real-estate life into the starting point for a revenge story: Ke Huy Quan plays Marvin, a mild-mannered realtor in suburban Milwaukee whose former partner in crime, Rose, returns with a request involving his crime-lord brother, Knuckles. Universal classifies the 2025 film as an action-comedy.
What the Love Hurts trailer sets up
Marvin has left a violent life behind and is trying to live quietly as a realtor. Rose, played by Ariana DeBose, brings that past back into the present. She wants Marvin’s help taking revenge against Knuckles, his brother and a crime lord played by Daniel Wu. The central contrast is clear: a suburban home seller is drawn back into criminal violence by people and obligations he thought he had left behind.

The premise comes from Universal’s official film synopsis. It establishes a revenge conflict and a former partnership between Marvin and Rose; it does not, on its own, establish that the film is primarily a romance.
Cast, director and tone
Alongside Quan, DeBose and Wu, the principal cast includes Mustafa Shakir, Lio Tipton, Cam Gigandet, Marshawn “Beastmode” Lynch and Sean Astin. Jonathan Eusebio directed. Universal describes Eusebio as an award-winning stunt designer and identifies Love Hurts as his directorial debut.
