Lollapalooza’s final Sunday, August 3, 2025, ended with two sharply different headliner sets: Sabrina Carpenter turned the T-Mobile Stage into a choreographed retro dance party, while A$AP Rocky brought theatrical staging and a wide-ranging set that ran into the festival’s 10 p.m. curfew. Reviews from the Chicago Sun-Times and Rolling Stone capture distinct strengths and frustrations rather than one shared verdict.
What happened on Lollapalooza’s final Sunday?
The four-day festival ran July 31–August 3, 2025, in Chicago’s Grant Park. Carpenter and Rocky were among the eight announced headliners, alongside Olivia Rodrigo, Tyler, the Creator, Rüfüs Du Sol, Luke Combs, TWICE and Korn. The bill featured more than 170 artists across eight stages, according to ABC News.
The headliners’ contrasting approaches gave the final night its shape: Carpenter built a cohesive, nostalgia-themed spectacle, while Rocky’s performance moved between forceful hits and more reflective songs under increasing time pressure.
How did Sabrina Carpenter’s set play?
A retro television dance show
The Chicago Sun-Times described Carpenter’s closing set as an old-school dance-show party, evoking American Bandstand and Soul Train. Its review highlighted the set design, pop songs and choreography as parts of a unified presentation. The paper’s Sunday review also reports that Earth, Wind & Fire joined Carpenter for “Let’s Groove” and “September,” turning the guest appearance into the night’s most striking surprise.

Rolling Stone adds more of the show’s theatrical details: Carpenter opened with a Chicago-news-anchor conceit, staged a dance competition, inserted faux nostalgic television ads and used a bed as a prop for “Bed Chem.” The recap characterized the presentation as a polished extension of her recent tour, with new surprises worked into the format.
Songs and set length
One review counted an 80-minute set, including eleven songs from 2024’s Short n’ Sweet, and reported that “Manchild” made its live debut. Those figures and the debut designation belong to that reviewer’s account, rather than a universally established set record.

How did A$AP Rocky’s set compare?
Theatrical staging and a slow start
Rocky’s entrance by helicopter supplied a dramatic opening image, but the Chicago Sun-Times reported that he started more than 15 minutes late and described the early portion as disjointed. The paper said he found his flow in stronger stretches. “Praise the Lord (Da Shine)” and “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n)” were early heavy hitters; “L$D” and “Sundress” shifted the mood toward introspection.
Rolling Stone also noted the late start and helicopter staging. Its recap emphasized Rocky’s range and lyricism across a career-spanning sequence, including “L$D,” “Sundress” and “Goldie,” while acknowledging pressure from the clock. The two accounts overlap on the broad arc, but their emphasis differs: the Sun-Times gives a more detailed scene and set-list account, while Rolling Stone foregrounds the breadth of the performance.

The curfew shaped the ending
As the 10 p.m. curfew neared, Rocky rushed through planned material. The Sun-Times reported that the festival cut his microphone and set off fireworks. Its published set list includes “A$AP Forever,” “Tailor Swif,” “Goldie,” “LVL,” “Fashion Killa,” “Jukebox Joints,” and covers of “Jump Around” and “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” The combination of a delayed start and fixed end time turned the closing stretch into a race rather than an unhurried finish.
During the set, Rocky told the crowd, “I know rap is competitive right now, but I’m gonna spread love tonight,” according to the Sun-Times.

What the reviews show about the final-day experience
Carpenter’s set depended on continuity: visual gags, choreography and familiar pop songs all reinforced the retro television concept, with Earth, Wind & Fire providing a genuine live surprise. Rocky’s performance was less tightly contained, shifting between high-energy tracks and introspective moments; its theatrical entrance and range had to contend with a late start and the curfew.
The festival’s scale is useful context, but published crowd numbers should be read with attribution. Rolling Stone reported that organizers estimated 115,000 attendees per day in 2025; this is an organizer estimate, not an independently verified head count. The same report said four-day passes sold out in less than an hour after the March lineup announcement. Rolling Stone’s recap provides that context alongside its account of the Sunday performances.
