Logout works best as a tense story about what happens when an online persona becomes inseparable from a person’s work and sense of self. Babil Khan anchors the Hindi thriller as Pratyush, an influencer whose missing phone puts his account—and the life built around it—in the hands of an obsessive fan. The film’s premise is pointed; its execution is less consistent.
What is Logout about?
Directed by Amit Golani and written by Biswapati Sarkar, Logout follows Pratyush, a social-media influencer nearing a major follower milestone. When his phone goes missing, someone who claims to be his greatest fan gets control of the device and his online life. The phone is more than a way to post: it connects Pratyush’s audience, work and public identity.

The setup turns a familiar object into the thriller’s pressure point. The danger moves beyond losing access to an account: another person can reach into Pratyush’s carefully managed public image and affect his offline life. The film’s central tension is therefore about control as much as recovery.
What does the film say about social media?
In her Scroll review, Nandini Ramnath reads the film as an examination of social-media addiction, the gap between virtual and actual experience, and the constructed appearance of organic influence. That is a critical interpretation of the film, not evidence about the effects of social media on users generally.

The premise gives those ideas a thriller’s shape: if an audience and an account are central to someone’s livelihood and self-image, losing control of the phone can feel like losing control of the person others see. Logout is most compelling when it connects that dependence to real-world consequences rather than treating follower counts as a story in themselves.
How well does Logout work as a thriller?
Concept and suspense
The missing-phone premise creates a clear source of danger and a natural conflict between public access and private life. Ramnath praises the sharpness of the direction and the relevance of the ideas. The story has an immediate hook, though a strong concept does not guarantee that every stretch of the screenplay sustains momentum.

Babil Khan’s performance
Khan gives the film a compelling centre as an internet star forced to confront consequences beyond the screen, according to Ramnath. His performance helps make Pratyush more than a symbol of online culture: the character is also a person trying to retain control as the boundaries around his public identity collapse.
Writing and pacing
Critical responses are mixed. Review excerpts collected by Rotten Tomatoes include praise for the premise and Khan’s performance alongside criticism of repetition, pacing or execution. That range points to an uneven experience rather than a universal verdict: the ideas and lead performance may hold attention even when the screenplay circles its themes.

Is Logout worth watching?
Consider it if you like thrillers built around a contemporary social premise and are interested in the risks of making an online persona central to everyday life. The film offers a focused setup and a lead performance that critics have singled out, but its pacing and writing have also drawn reservations. It is easier to recommend for its subject and central performance than as a consistently taut thriller.
