Locky and Irena Gilbert announced in February 2024 that they had welcomed their daughter, Ava Aleksandra Gilbert. PerthNow reported that Ava was born on Friday, 23 February. The announcement followed the couple’s public discussion of earlier miscarriages and Irena’s difficult pregnancy.
When was Ava Gilbert born?
PerthNow reported on 24 February 2024 that Locky and Irena had introduced their daughter, Ava Aleksandra Gilbert, with family photographs. The report gave her birth date as Friday, 23 February. PerthNow’s announcement described the arrival as a milestone for the couple after their earlier experiences of pregnancy loss.
Locky and Irena’s path to parenthood
Locky Gilbert and Irena Srbinovska met on The Bachelor Australia in 2020 and married in March 2023, according to contemporaneous coverage. Their pregnancy announcement coverage noted that they said they were expecting their first child in September 2023.
The couple had previously spoken publicly about miscarriage. They discussed an earlier loss in 2021, and in July 2023 Irena disclosed that she had experienced another miscarriage the previous month. Coverage of Irena’s disclosure reported her account. These losses are part of their story, but Ava’s birth does not erase them or make pregnancy after loss straightforward for everyone.

Irena’s pregnancy disclosure
Before Ava’s birth, Irena said she had been diagnosed with a single umbilical artery and had chosen not to share her due date. PerthNow’s 7 January 2024 report relayed her description of the diagnosis and her pregnancy experience. It also attributed to her Instagram post the statement that “1 in 100 pregnancies have a single artery cord”; that figure is included here as reported in that coverage, not as independently verified medical guidance. In discussing how pregnancies can differ, Irena said: “I just wanted to put it out there that it’s ok if your experience is different to those of your friends, colleagues, relatives, people in media or whoever.” Her remark was about the variety of pregnancy experiences, rather than medical advice.

What Irena later said about pregnancy after loss
In a 2025 interview, Irena reflected on feeling anxious during pregnancy after her earlier losses. She said that anxiety lifted when Ava was born. The interview offers retrospective context; it is separate from the couple’s February 2024 birth announcement and should not be mistaken for a comment made at the time.
