Short answer: Livepush and OBS do different jobs. Livepush documents a scheduled playlist channel that can keep prerecorded videos running continuously without you present. OBS is an encoder: it sends a produced stream to YouTube using a server URL and stream key, but the cited OBS and YouTube guidance does not establish an equivalent unattended cloud playlist scheduler. For a prerecorded 24/7 channel, choose based on whether you need automated playlist scheduling, live production, or distribution to multiple platforms.
Livepush vs OBS for a 24/7 YouTube channel
| What matters | Livepush | OBS with YouTube |
|---|---|---|
| Core role | Streaming and distribution service; its schedule-channel workflow is for queued prerecorded videos. | Streaming software used as an encoder to send a live feed to a destination. |
| Unattended prerecorded schedule | Livepush says its schedule channel can queue videos and run continuously without the operator present. | The cited YouTube encoder guidance explains connecting an encoder, not an unattended playlist-scheduling service. |
| Live production | Can distribute an incoming feed; Livepush documents OBS as a compatible encoder in that workflow. | YouTube says an encoder can support screen or gameplay capture, external audio/video hardware, and more advanced production. |
| Multiple destinations | Livepush says one RTMP/SRT feed can be distributed to multiple platforms; allowances depend on plan. | The cited OBS/YouTube guidance covers sending the stream to YouTube; it does not establish the same multistream distribution service. |
| Where viewers watch | Livepush distinguishes social-platform delivery from hosted playback on the operator’s own site; its hosting plans include a branded player delivered via Akamai CDN, according to Livepush. | The cited encoder instructions describe a YouTube destination, not a hosted player for the operator’s site. |
These are not interchangeable tools in every workflow. You can use OBS to create a live feed and Livepush to distribute it; Livepush’s prerecorded schedule channel is a separate use case from that encoder-and-distribution setup.
Can OBS run a 24/7 YouTube stream?
OBS can encode and send a stream to YouTube, but a continuous broadcast also needs an uninterrupted source and an operator or system to maintain it. The cited YouTube instructions explain how to connect an encoder; they do not describe OBS as an unattended cloud playlist scheduler. If you want OBS to broadcast prerecorded material, confirm that your chosen setup actually supports the playback, looping, recovery, and supervision you need rather than assuming those functions are included in the encoder connection.
Connect an encoder to YouTube
- Open YouTube’s Live workflow and create or select the stream you intend to broadcast. YouTube describes streaming by webcam, mobile device, or encoder; this guide covers the encoder route.
- In YouTube Live, obtain the server URL and stream key for the stream.
- In OBS, open the stream settings and enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key as the service connection details. Keep the stream key private: anyone with access may be able to broadcast to the channel.
- Set up your video and audio sources in OBS, then start streaming and confirm the incoming feed and status in YouTube Live before treating the channel as live.
For advanced production, YouTube identifies encoder use cases such as screen or gameplay capture, external audio/video hardware, and multi-camera or microphone setups. The appropriate scene, source, and encoding settings depend on your content and connection; the cited sources do not establish universal bitrate or resolution values for every channel.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Plan the archive separately
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That wording does not guarantee that a continuous broadcast lasting 24 hours or more will become one automatically archived video. Check YouTube’s current live controls and plan how you will preserve or divide important footage rather than relying on a single automatic archive.
When Livepush is the better fit
For prerecorded programming that should keep looping while you are away, Livepush documents a schedule-channel workflow: queue videos and have them run continuously. Its guide identifies Creators as the least expensive plan that supports this 24/7 schedule channel. As described in Livepush’s help pages checked on 2026-10-03, Creators is listed at $39/month or $32.50/month with annual billing. These are vendor-listed prices and may change.

Livepush’s plan page lists the Creators features as video looping, up to 4K output, five simultaneous streams, 40 platforms, five destinations per platform, and 20 GB of video storage. Livepush says Business adds higher stream counts, more storage, team invites, priority support, and on-air schedule editing. Confirm current limits and entitlements on the provider’s pages before choosing a plan.
Do not confuse hours with scheduling
Livepush lists its Forever Free tier at 20 streaming hours per month. Its Pro plan is listed at $15/month or $13/month with annual billing, removes that monthly-hours cap, and supports up to three simultaneous streams. However, Livepush says 24/7 scheduling is added by Creators. Unlimited multistreaming hours, as described for Pro, are not the same thing as an automated 24/7 playlist channel.

If the audience watches on your own site
Livepush’s documentation describes hosting plans with a branded player and Akamai CDN delivery, and identifies Studio as the entry plan for 24/7 hosted playback. It says Events does not include the 24/7 schedule channel. These hosted-playback plans address a different destination from simply sending a stream to YouTube; check the current plan description if an embedded player is part of your requirement.
Do I need Livepush to keep a YouTube stream running?
No. YouTube accepts streams from an encoder such as OBS when you connect it with the server URL and stream key. Livepush is relevant if you want its documented services, such as queued prerecorded scheduling or distribution of an encoder feed to multiple platforms; it is not required merely to connect OBS to YouTube.

Costs and practical trade-offs
Compare the service you need, not just the monthly hours or the word “streaming.” OBS is encoder software in the described workflow; Livepush plans add cloud scheduling, distribution, or hosted playback according to their features. A setup that uses a computer and OBS also depends on that computer and its connection remaining available for the broadcast, while a hosted scheduling service moves playback operation to its service. The cited sources do not establish a specific computer, accessory, or hardware purchase as necessary for this choice.
- Choose OBS when your priority is producing a live feed for YouTube, especially with screen capture or external audio/video sources, and you can manage the stream operation.
- Choose Livepush Creators when you specifically need Livepush’s documented 24/7 prerecorded schedule channel, or compare its distribution plans if you need one feed sent to several destinations.
- For a branded player on your own site, evaluate Livepush’s hosted-playback plans separately from its social-platform schedule channel.
- Compare total operating cost against the time and infrastructure needed to keep a do-it-yourself encoder running; actual costs depend on your existing equipment and operating arrangement.
Troubleshooting and checks before going live
OBS does not connect to YouTube
- Check that the server URL and stream key were copied from the intended YouTube Live stream and entered in OBS.
- Verify the stream is set up in YouTube Live and that the key has not been changed or replaced since it was entered.
- Do not share the stream key publicly; replace it in YouTube and update OBS if it may have been exposed.
The channel stops when no one is watching the computer
The cited OBS/YouTube material describes an encoder connection, not unattended cloud playlist scheduling. Review the full operating setup—playback source, computer, network, and monitoring—if you need a DIY stream to continue unattended. If your requirement is hosted looping of uploaded videos, compare a cloud schedule-channel service instead.
The stream runs, but a single VOD is missing
YouTube’s stated automatic archive coverage is for streams under 12 hours. Do not assume one broadcast that runs 24 hours or longer will produce one automatic archive; check the current live controls and arrange separate recording or archive handling if the footage matters.
A Livepush plan has enough hours but no schedule channel
Check the exact feature entitlement, not just the monthly-hours allowance. Livepush says its 24/7 schedule channel is supported by Creators, while Pro’s removal of the hours cap does not add that scheduling feature.
