Lisa Robin Kelly, best known as Laurie Forman on That ’70s Show, died on August 14, 2013, aged 43, at a Los Angeles-area addiction treatment facility she had entered earlier that week. Initial reports said the cause of death was not yet public; in January 2014, CBS Los Angeles reported that the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office had ruled her death accidental, caused by multiple drug intoxication. The specific drugs were not disclosed.
Who was Lisa Robin Kelly on That ’70s Show?
Kelly played Laurie Forman, the older sister of Eric Forman, on the sitcom That ’70s Show. ABC News reported that she appeared on the series from 1998 to 2003; the show itself ran from 1998 to 2006, according to The Washington Post. These dates describe different things: Kelly’s reported appearances and the program’s full run.

What happened in the days before her death?
Kelly’s agent, Craig Wyckoff, told the Los Angeles Times that she voluntarily checked into a California rehabilitation facility on Monday, August 12, 2013. She died two days later, on August 14, at a facility in the Los Angeles area. The Washington Post reported that she apparently died in her sleep.
Wyckoff told ABC News that he had spoken with her on Monday and that she sounded hopeful: “I spoke to her on Monday and she was hopeful and confident, looking forward to putting this part of her life behind her.” ABC News published his statement on August 15, 2013. His account describes their conversation; it does not establish what happened medically after it.

What had Kelly said about her struggles?
In a 2012 interview with ABC News, as recounted by the Los Angeles Times, Kelly said heavy drinking began in 2003 after a miscarriage. “I had lost a baby. As a result of that, I lost everything and I was abusing alcohol,” she said. This is her account of her experience, not a complete medical history or an explanation of her later death.
In spring 2013, Kelly told ABC News she had been sober for three months and was considering a return to acting. “I am not running from this,” she said. She also said, “I have paid my dues and if I can make it through this I can make it through anything.” The ABC report did not establish what became of her plans afterward.

What did investigators say at first?
In its August 21, 2013 report, the Los Angeles Times quoted Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore as saying investigators had found “no foul play” in their initial investigation. The same report said the coroner’s report was sealed at that time and that the cause of death had not been made public. That early status was later superseded by the coroner’s ruling reported in January 2014.

On January 3, 2014, CBS Los Angeles reported, citing the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, that Kelly’s death was ruled accidental and caused by multiple drug intoxication. The report did not identify the drugs found in her system. It is therefore accurate to describe the later reported ruling, but not to name substances or infer a more specific sequence of events.

The timing matters: news reports immediately after her death said the cause was unknown or not yet public; the later report gave the coroner’s ruling. Kelly’s death occurred at a treatment facility she had entered earlier that week, but the available reports do not say that entering treatment caused her death.
