Lil Tjay’s “second life” is a useful way to describe his return to music after being shot in 2022—but it is not a confirmed title for a documentary or other released work. Sony Music Canada reported his recovery through the music video for “Beat the Odds”; separately, the label had announced a documentary project in 2020 without naming it or confirming its release.
What happened to Lil Tjay?
In a Sony Music Canada release dated August 26, 2022, the label said Lil Tjay had been shot seven times on June 22, 2022, sustaining wounds to his lung, neck and chest. The account is the label’s reporting of the incident. Read Sony Music Canada’s release.

The same release quotes Lil Tjay saying, “This has been a long road to recovery but I’m happy to have a second chance.” His return to recording and the story told in “Beat the Odds” are the basis for describing this period as a second life.
How did “Beat the Odds” document his return?
Sony said “Beat the Odds” was the first song Lil Tjay felt inspired to record while in the hospital. The label described the video as using real footage of his recovery: it follows him from his hospital release to a church and shows him recording again eight weeks after the shooting. The eight-week detail is Sony’s account of what the video depicts, not an independently established medical timeline.

That makes the video a firsthand-style visual account of recovery and renewed music-making, but it is not confirmation of a full-length documentary. Its format and scope are those of a music video.
Did Lil Tjay release a documentary called “Second Life”?
The available official announcements do not establish that “Lil Tjay’s Second Life” is the name of a released documentary. In a November 20, 2020 announcement about his “Move On” video, Sony Music Canada said an accompanying documentary would further explore his journey and continued success. The announcement did not name the documentary or give a release date, and it does not confirm that the project was released. Read the 2020 announcement.

The two official accounts therefore refer to different things: an unnamed documentary project mentioned in 2020 and the 2022 “Beat the Odds” music video, which depicts part of his recovery. Without confirmation from an official source, the title should be treated as an editorial description of his comeback, not as a verified film title.
