Levi Ackerman’s best moments in Attack on Titan are not limited to his fights. His defining scenes also reveal the cost of command, the weight of loss, and the choices he makes for the people around him. This ranking weighs action, emotional impact, character insight, and consequences for the story; the order is an editorial judgment, not a canonically settled or universally agreed list.
Spoiler warning: This list discusses major events through the final season.
Levi Ackerman’s 10 best moments, ranked
10. Returning to save Eren, Mikasa, and Armin during the Trost operation
Levi’s early return during the Trost operation makes a useful introduction to the tension at the heart of his role: he is an extraordinary fighter, but he is also a captain responsible for other people’s survival. The official Attack on Titan character page identifies him as the Survey Corps captain regarded in the story as humanity’s strongest soldier, and its season-one timeline records him coming back to save Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.
9. Losing his squad after the expedition
Levi’s strength does not spare him from the consequences of leading soldiers into danger. The same official character timeline records an expedition in which he defeats Titans but loses subordinates. The loss gives his later loyalty and hard choices a grounding that a list of victories alone would miss.

8. Facing the Female Titan and losing his original squad
The Female Titan encounter is memorable not only as a clash between powerful fighters but as a turning point in Levi’s experience of command and loss. Its place here reflects the way the danger of the mission reaches beyond Levi himself: the people who fight beside him pay the price too.
7. Choosing to trust his comrades with the Female Titan
Levi’s response to the Female Titan also shows that he cannot solve every crisis through personal strength. He has to rely on the Survey Corps’ wider plan and on the soldiers around him, even when the stakes are high. That contrast makes the later moments when he takes direct action feel more consequential.

6. Facing Kenny and the personal history between them
Kenny is more than another dangerous opponent for Levi. Their connection gives their confrontations a personal dimension, and it brings Levi’s past into a story largely driven by war and survival. Their final conversation in “Friends” makes that relationship especially clear.
5. Kenny’s final conversation with Levi in “Friends”
In “Friends” (Season 3, Episode 10), Kenny gives Levi the Titan serum before the two share a final conversation. The scene stands apart from the series’ large-scale battles: what matters is not a display of technique but the complicated relationship between two men whose lives have been shaped by violence. ComicBook.com’s episode ranking also highlights the exchange as a character-focused moment.

4. Levi’s losses in the Survey Corps
Levi’s history as a captain is inseparable from the soldiers he cannot bring home. His encounters with the Female Titan and the losses recorded in his early expedition history make that burden visible across different stages of the story. These moments help explain why his leadership is defined as much by judgment and responsibility as by combat ability.
3. Levi reaches Zeke in the Shiganshina battle
In “Hero” (Season 3, Episode 17), Levi makes a rapid approach and attacks Zeke, the Beast Titan. The scene is a striking action centerpiece, but it also matters because it takes place within the larger Shiganshina battle, where the Survey Corps’ decisions have far-reaching consequences. The episode’s appeal is in the combination of clear, forceful choreography and the danger surrounding the mission; that does not make it an objectively agreed-upon best fight. The moment is also singled out in ComicBook.com’s Season 3 episode ranking.

2. Fighting the Beast Titan in “Hero”
The attack on Zeke earns a second place in this ranking because it brings Levi’s reputation as a fighter into sharp focus. He closes the distance quickly and lands his attack, turning a daunting opponent into a sudden, immediate threat. Its position here reflects both spectacle and story consequence: the clash is part of a battle whose outcome carries more weight than a standalone duel.
1. Choosing Armin over Erwin in “Midnight Sun”
In “Midnight Sun” (Season 3, Episode 18), Levi must decide who receives the Titan serum: the gravely wounded Erwin or Armin. He changes course and chooses Armin after Erwin’s arm moves as Levi is about to inject him. The moment is powerful because Levi must make an irreversible choice under immense pressure, not because the movement supplies a simple or certain answer. His decision makes this the ranking’s strongest combination of character revelation, emotional weight, and consequence. The episode’s account in ComicBook.com’s ranking also identifies the choice as a defining scene.

Where to read more about Levi
Readers looking for Levi’s backstory rather than a collection of these anime scenes can turn to Attack on Titan: No Regrets Complete Color Edition. Kodansha describes the collection as Levi’s story, available in print and digital formats: see the official Kodansha listing. The original No Regrets series is described as an origin story for Levi and Erwin, so it is a companion to the ranked moments, not a retelling of them; details are on Kodansha’s series page.
