Celebrity Net Worth lists LeVar Burton’s net worth at $6 million. That is a third-party estimate, not a confirmed figure from Burton or a verified accounting of his finances. The available sources document his career, but do not establish his assets, debts, earnings, or personal net worth.
Where the $6 million figure comes from
The $6 million figure is published by Celebrity Net Worth. The site says its net-worth figures are estimates based on public sources and, when available, private tips and feedback. It does not provide a sourced accounting of Burton’s finances alongside the figure.

That distinction matters: a published estimate is not the same as a personal financial disclosure, audited statement, or independently verified total. The cited sources do not establish what Burton owns, owes, or has earned. The amount is best described as Celebrity Net Worth’s estimate, rather than as a confirmed fact about his wealth.
What Burton’s documented career includes
Biographical sources trace Burton’s career across acting and children’s television. The National Book Foundation describes him as an actor, director, and education advocate, and says he produced and hosted Reading Rainbow for 23 years. The Library of Congress records his hosting tenure as 1983–2006.

#1 Best Overall
- Roots: Burton’s breakthrough role was Kunta Kinte, as noted in the National Book Foundation biography.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation: He portrayed Geordi La Forge, a role recorded in his Library of Congress biography.
- Reading Rainbow: Burton hosted and produced the program for 23 years, with the Library of Congress listing the run as 1983–2006.
These sources establish major parts of his public career, but they do not connect particular projects or roles to a verified personal income total. They therefore provide context for his public profile, not a calculation of net worth. The Television Academy’s interview page is another career-focused source.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the estimate does—and does not—tell you
The available evidence supports one narrow answer: Celebrity Net Worth publishes a $6 million estimate. It does not support a detailed breakdown of Burton’s wealth or confirm that the estimate reflects his current finances. No sourced figures for assets, liabilities, salary, royalties, or investments are provided by the sources cited here.
Rank #2
The National Endowment for the Humanities’ biographical page also includes a claim that children’s book sales increased 800 percent. The returned page text does not provide a publication year or enough measurement context to use that figure as a dated, independently validated financial metric; it does not establish Burton’s earnings or net worth.
