Pasukannya terus melawan ketika peluru semakin berkurang; Adnan ditangkap dan dibunuh selepas pertahanan Bukit Chandu. Siapakah Leftenan Adnan?
Adnan Saidi ialah pegawai Rejimen Melayu dengan pangkat 2nd Lieutenant ketika mempertahankan Pasir Panjang. Beliau memimpin 7th Platoon, yang ditempatkan di kawasan Opium Hill—nama Inggeris bagi Bukit Chandu. Sumber sejarah NHB menggambarkan beliau sebagai antara pertahanan terakhir di rabung itu.
Rejimen Melayu sendiri bermula pada 1933 sebagai sebuah syarikat eksperimen dengan 25 rekrut. Dalam kira-kira sepuluh tahun, pasukan itu berkembang sehingga hampir 1,400 anggota, menurut panduan pelawat Reflections at Bukit Chandu terbitan National Heritage Board pada 2023.

Pasir Panjang penting secara strategik kerana pelabuhan dan depot tentera berhampiran menjadi sasaran. Ketika tentera Jepun mara, anggota Rejimen Melayu mempertahankan rabung itu dalam pertempuran sengit. 7th Platoon C Company diarahkan ke Opium Hill, atau Bukit Chandu, sebagai kedudukan pertahanan baharu.

Adnan dan anggota platunnya bertahan walaupun bekalan peluru semakin berkurang. Naratif Roots.gov.sg menyebut pertempuran tangan-ke-tangan sebelum Adnan ditangkap dan dibunuh. Sumber muzium NHB menempatkan pertahanan Bukit Chandu pada kemuncak pertempuran rejimen pada 14 Februari.
