Leanne is built around a familiar Chuck Lorre sitcom setup—a family thrown into upheaval—but its central story comes from comedian Leanne Morgan’s own comic perspective. The Netflix series follows Leanne Murphy after her husband leaves her following 33 years of marriage. What begins as a late-in-life crisis becomes a story about family, friendship, church, dating and starting over.
The 16-episode first season premiered on July 31, 2025. Netflix has renewed the sitcom for a second season, scheduled to arrive on August 27, 2026, with several returning cast members and four announced additions.

Leanne Morgan as Leanne Murphy
Leanne Morgan plays the title character, a woman forced to reconsider her identity after her husband leaves her for another woman. Leanne’s family, friends and church community become part of the support system that helps her navigate the change.
The role is closely connected to Morgan’s stand-up persona, which often draws on family life, marriage and middle age. It is also her first leading role in a sitcom. Morgan is more than the star: she co-created the series with Chuck Lorre and Susan McMartin and serves as an executive producer.

Kristen Johnston as Carol
Kristen Johnston plays Carol, Leanne’s twice-divorced sister. Carol is fiercely loyal, direct and often willing to say what everyone else is avoiding. Her own experience with divorce gives her a particular perspective on Leanne’s situation.
Johnston has a long history with the show’s creative team. She previously worked with Lorre and McMartin on Mom. Her other notable credits include the science-fiction sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun and the dark comedy The Righteous Gemstones.
Ryan Stiles as Bill Murphy
Ryan Stiles plays Bill, Leanne’s estranged husband. After 33 years of marriage, Bill leaves Leanne for another woman, creating the event that drives the series’ story.
Stiles is best known for his improvisational work on Whose Line Is It Anyway? and for playing Lewis Kinear on The Drew Carey Show. Bill places Stiles in a very different kind of sitcom role: rather than being the reliable comic partner at the center of a household, he is the absent husband whose decision reshapes the family.

Hannah Pilkes as Josie Murphy
Hannah Pilkes plays Josie, Leanne and Bill’s rebellious daughter. Josie is portrayed as a fun-seeking rule-breaker who moves between jobs and relationships.
Her character adds a younger, less settled perspective to the Murphy family. While Leanne is rebuilding after decades of marriage, Josie is still testing different versions of adult life.
Celia Weston as Mama Margaret
Celia Weston plays Mama Margaret, Leanne and Carol’s mother and the family matriarch. Weston’s film and television career includes acclaimed dramas such as In the Bedroom and Dead Man Walking.
Blake Clark as Daddy John
