“The One You Feed,” Law & Order: SVU Season 24, Episode 2, follows an attack on a family as SVU investigates teens terrorizing tourists. The episode also marks Amanda Rollins’s first day back after being shot, tests Olivia Benson’s working relationship with Bronx Gang Unit Captain Mike Duarte, and brings Detective Muncy into SVU. What happens in “The One You Feed”?
Chief Tommy McGrath pairs SVU with Bronx Gang Unit Captain Mike Duarte to pursue a lead in a case involving a group of teens who have been terrorizing tourists. The investigation leads to an attack on a family in a subway. The rape victim, her sister, and her mother identify attackers; the father dies from machete injuries. Rollins and Fin handle an arrest.

How does Rollins’s return affect the episode?
Rollins returns to work after being shot in the Season 24 premiere crossover. Benson recognizes that it is a difficult first day back, and later asks about Rollins missing appointments with the department psychologist. Rollins explains that during the shooting she feared losing her daughters and Carisi. By the end of the day, she is still tired and affected by the injury; the episode does not present her as fully recovered.
What changes for Benson, Duarte, Velasco, and Muncy?
Benson is uneasy about working with Duarte. McGrath tells her to disregard rumors about Duarte’s undercover work, and the gang member’s death is ultimately ruled an accident. Duarte offers Velasco a role with the gang unit, but Velasco chooses to remain at SVU.

Benson also sees Muncy with a victim and praises her listening. Muncy transfers to SVU at the end of the episode. As Benson puts it, “Listening is probably the most valuable skill you can have as a cop,” according to TV Insider’s September 29, 2022 recap.
