During a Minneapolis protest following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent, a woman told Fox News host Laura Ingraham, “I’m getting paid right now!” after Ingraham asked whether she had a job. Ingraham took the remark to mean that protesting was the woman’s job, but the available reporting does not establish that she was paid to protest. The encounter ended with the crew leaving amid heckling; the sources reviewed do not establish that demonstrators physically forced Ingraham out.
What happened at the Minneapolis protest?
RealClearPolitics published a transcript on January 9, 2026, of Ingraham reporting live from a protest in Minneapolis. Protesters chanted “Shame!” as she spoke with a woman and asked, “Do you have a job?” The woman replied, “I’m getting paid right now!” Ingraham then said the woman had indicated that protesting was her job. The transcript records the exchange and says the crew was driving away as demonstrators gave the middle finger. RealClearPolitics’ transcript
The Independent placed the confrontation amid Minneapolis protests following the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent. It reported Ingraham describing demonstrators as people who “kind of nicely, but aggressively escort you out across their border.” That wording is Ingraham’s characterization, not independent confirmation of a physical escort. Did the woman admit she was paid to protest?
The transcript establishes the words she said, not what she meant by them. PolitiFact reported that it could not confirm the woman’s identity or motive and found no further reporting about this specific incident. Her answer could have meant she was paid specifically to protest, been sarcastic, or meant something else; the available evidence does not resolve that ambiguity. PolitiFact’s review of the incident

That broader review is context, not evidence identifying this woman or establishing her personal motive. PolitiFact’s broader review

“Shut down” is headline framing for a hostile exchange in which protesters chanted at Ingraham. “Escorted out” reflects Ingraham’s account of demonstrators’ conduct. The transcript says the crew was driving away, but the reviewed sources do not establish that demonstrators physically removed or forced her out. It is more precise to say the encounter was contentious and the crew departed while protesters heckled them.
