If viewers cannot hear your Larix Broadcaster stream, first check Android’s microphone permission and device-wide microphone access, then confirm Larix is using the right audio source. Next, work out whether the missing sound is microphone input or audio from another app, and compare what Larix captures with what appears in YouTube Live Control Room. The cause depends on your phone, Android version, and audio setup; there is no single fix for every silent stream.
1. Check Larix’s microphone permission and Android’s microphone control
- Open Settings > Apps > Larix Broadcaster > Permissions > Microphone and allow microphone access. Android’s guidance describes this permission as enabling the app to record audio: Change app permissions on your Android phone.
- Check the separate, device-wide microphone access control. On devices that use this menu, look under Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy controls for microphone access and turn it on.
- Return to Larix and make a brief test. Menu names and locations can vary by Android release and phone manufacturer.
These are two independent checks: granting Larix permission will not help if Android’s system-wide microphone access is off, and turning on the system control will not grant Larix permission by itself.
2. Confirm which audio source Larix is using
In Larix, open Settings > Audio and inspect Audio source. Choose the appropriate built-in microphone source for ordinary speech near the phone, or connect your external microphone or mixer before testing its input. The Larix Google Play listing’s developer guidance recommends trying the Audio source setting if an input is not detected. For some external devices, it also suggests trying a higher sample rate such as 48000; that is a troubleshooting option, not a universal requirement. See the Larix Broadcaster Google Play listing.
Change one setting at a time and make a short test after each change. That makes it easier to identify whether the selected source or sample rate affected the result.

3. Identify whether the missing sound is microphone audio or app audio
Microphone capture and audio playing inside another Android app are different paths. If you are speaking into the phone and the stream is silent, continue checking permission, microphone access, and Larix’s selected input; Android’s limits on capturing other apps do not explain a silent ordinary microphone on their own.
If you mean music, video, or other sound playing within another app, Android version and the source app matter. Softvelum’s Larix FAQ says Android 9 and earlier restrict apps from capturing other apps’ audio. On Android 10, media capture works only when the app playing the audio supports external recording. Larix’s documented control is Audio > Sound settings > Media sounds. Enabling it cannot override Android’s or the source app’s restrictions.

4. Check an external microphone, headset, or mixer feed
- Disconnect and reconnect the accessory, and check that its connector and any adapter are suitable for your phone.
- Confirm that the phone recognizes the intended input, then select or test that source in Larix. A connector that fits physically does not prove the phone accepts the signal or that Larix has selected it.
- If a mixer is supplying a line feed, verify that the phone and adapter accept that type of signal. A user report on the Larix listing describes a Pixel 3a not always detecting a line feed through its headphone jack; it is an individual account, not evidence of a general Pixel compatibility problem.
YouTube’s encoder guidance also says to connect microphones and headsets and set them up with the encoder. If the phone or Larix does not detect the chosen accessory, a compatible external microphone may be an alternative input device, but check compatibility before buying one. A different microphone will not fix denied permission or a problem in the YouTube stream handoff. YouTube’s instructions are here: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
5. Locate where the audio disappears
- Make a short test and check whether Larix indicates audio activity. If a local recording is available, listen to it too.
- Open the incoming preview in YouTube Live Control Room and listen from a separate playback device. This helps distinguish the phone’s capture from the stream viewers receive.
- If the local capture is silent, return to Android permissions, microphone access, and Larix’s input selection.
- If local audio is present but the YouTube playback is silent, check the encoder’s stream connection settings and routing. YouTube’s encoder instructions call for entering YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder. This comparison is a practical way to narrow down the handoff; YouTube does not document a Larix-specific sound-meter diagnosis.

If Larix captures audio locally but YouTube playback does not, investigate the stream connection rather than treating it as a microphone-permission failure.
