Kristen Stewart appears on Lord Huron’s “Who Laughs Last?” in a spoken-word role, alongside the band’s frontman Ben Schneider. Announced as a new song on January 24, 2025, it later appeared on the band’s fifth album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, released July 18, 2025. The accompanying video stars Stewart and was directed by Tony Wilson.
What is Kristen Stewart’s role in “Who Laughs Last?”
Stewart delivers poetic spoken word rather than a conventional sung duet. Apple Music credits both Stewart and Schneider as vocalists and identifies Schneider as the songwriter. The single is listed as one track with a four-minute runtime; its rights line names Whispering Pines Studios Inc. and Mercury Records/UMG. Apple Music’s listing gives the release and track details.

Universal Music Canada described the arrangement as a highway narrative built around a rumbling, palm-muted bass riff, a high-energy beat, broadcast samples and strings, with Stewart’s spoken delivery preceding Schneider’s vocals around the hook. Those are the label’s descriptions of the track. The label’s January 24 announcement also called it Lord Huron’s first original release in two years and Stewart’s debut recording.
When did the song come out?
“Who Laughs Last?” was announced and released as a digital single on January 24, 2025. It was “new” in that announcement; it is not a newly released track today. The song was later included on The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, Lord Huron’s fifth album, released July 18, 2025. Universal Music Canada says Schneider wrote and co-produced the album and lists Stewart among its collaborators. The album announcement provides those details.

What happens in the music video?
The video stars Stewart and was directed by Tony Wilson. Universal Music Canada describes its setting as a lonely highway and its visual approach as “Lynchian film noir.” That characterization comes from the label’s release announcement.
Who made the recording?
Apple Music credits Ben Schneider and Matthew Neighbour as producers, Ben Tolliday as additional producer, Mark Barry as engineer, Lars Stalfors as mixer, Hamish Patrick as assistant mixer, and Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone for mastering. Schneider is credited as songwriter.

What the collaborators said
In the January 2025 announcement, Schneider said he had not known Stewart previously but had been a fan since seeing her work with Olivier Assayas, introduced to him by his wife. Stewart said she had always loved the band and “immediately sparked to the manic drift of the song and to the mood.” Schneider later described the collaboration as “the kind of collaboration you dream of, honestly,” while Stewart said she loves when a song is something listeners can “seep into and imagine.”

A separate album milestone
Universal Music Canada reported that another song from The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, “Nothing I Need,” spent six weeks at number one on Adult Alternative radio. That is a label-reported 2025 statistic about “Nothing I Need,” not a chart claim about “Who Laughs Last?”
