Kohrra Season 1 makes its murder investigation matter beyond the question of who committed the crime: grief, family pressure, secrets and the detectives’ own complicated lives give the case its human weight. The result is a compelling, atmospheric police drama, though viewers looking for a fast, clue-packed thriller should know Netflix describes it as a slow burn.
This review covers Season 1, which premiered in 2023. Netflix now lists two seasons; Season 2, released in 2026, has a new case and commanding officer while continuing one detective’s story.

What is Kohrra about?
Set in Punjab, Season 1 begins after Paul, a non-resident Indian, is found dead near the time of his wedding. Two police officers investigate as suspicion spreads and personal relationships complicate the search for answers. Netflix’s official announcement frames the story around both the hunt for a killer and the characters’ relationships; its India title listing identifies Paul and connects the case to a wedding and a missing foreigner.
The show’s central balance works because the investigation is not just a puzzle running alongside a separate family drama. The case draws attention to grief, intimacy, loyalty and the pressures people carry into their daily lives. The personal material gives the procedural emotional stakes, while the investigation supplies a reason for these lives to collide.

Does the procedural stay gripping?
Yes. The investigation provides forward motion, and the growing web of suspicion keeps the central question alive. But Kohrra is more interested in how people behave under pressure than in delivering a rapid succession of clues. Netflix labels the series “Slow Burn” alongside “Suspenseful,” “Mystery” and “Police Detectives,” a useful indication of its intended rhythm.
That measured pace is a strength when the character details deepen the case’s atmosphere and stakes. It can be a trade-off for viewers who want a tightly accelerated thriller in which each scene is primarily a new clue. The series’ appeal lies in letting the investigation and the characters’ private lives inform each other, not in treating every personal scene as a step toward a reveal.

What makes the drama human?
The detectives are not blank instruments of the investigation. Their lives and pressures shape how they meet the case, and the show gives relationships and emotional fallout room alongside police work. That emphasis also reaches beyond the officers: the people touched by the death are not merely clues to be sorted, but part of a community negotiating loss, distrust and concealed histories.
Creator Sudip Sharma has described the show’s aims in terms of “quieter tensions between people, between past and present,” and has said the team is interested in characters’ emotions and relationships, with crime as “a subset.” Those comments explain the creative intent; the season’s strongest evidence is how its procedural and interpersonal threads share the same dramatic space.

How does Punjab shape the series?
Punjab is more than a backdrop for a familiar police mystery. The local setting gives the story its social texture, while its themes—grief, family expectations, secrecy and the search for justice—remain accessible to viewers unfamiliar with the region. The show does not need to flatten its setting into exposition for the emotional stakes to register.
That combination makes Kohrra a good fit for viewers who enjoy crime dramas grounded in place and character. Its atmosphere and patient storytelling matter as much as the mechanics of the case.

Who is in the cast and who made it?
Suvinder Vicky and Barun Sobti lead an ensemble that includes Varun Badola, Harleen Sethi, Rachel Shelley and Manish Chaudhari. Netflix credits Gunjit Chopra, Diggi Sisodia and Sudip Sharma as creators, with Chopra and Sisodia as writers, Randeep Jha as director, and Clean Slate Filmz as producer. The ensemble helps the show sustain a tense, intimate mood rather than narrowing its world to the two investigators.

Season 2 began streaming on Netflix on February 11, 2026, and tells a new case rather than continuing Paul’s investigation. Garundi, played by Barun Sobti, has moved from Jagrana to Dalerpura Police Station, where he works under Inspector Dhanwant Kaur, played by Mona Singh. Garundi’s personal story carries forward, but the new case and officer make Season 2 a distinct chapter. Netflix’s announcement gives the season’s premise and credits; The Indian Express reports that Dalerpura is fictional and quotes Sharma on the series’ focus on character and relationships.

How has Season 1 been received?
At the time of the cited Rotten Tomatoes listing, Season 1 showed a 100% Tomatometer score from 12 critic reviews and an 83% Popcornmeter score from 50-plus audience ratings. Those are time-sensitive aggregator figures, not a guarantee of an individual viewer’s response. Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus calls it “A tightly constructed procedural featuring compellingly human investigators” that “entertains with the utmost efficiency.”
Rotten Tomatoes’ Season 1 page also lists selected reviews by critics including Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express, Shilajit Mitra of The Hindu, Lachmi Deb Roy of Firstpost and James Delingpole of The Spectator. The consensus and displayed scores describe the aggregator’s coverage; they should not be read as evidence of a broader viewership figure.
