Djimon Hounsou: a former partner, not a husband
Simmons and actor Djimon Hounsou were together for about five and a half years and were never married. In November 2012, she confirmed their separation and described their relationship afterward as “happy, loving, co-parenting friends+family.” Their son Kenzo was three and a half at the time, according to the Los Angeles Times report.

That 2012 description differs from Simmons’s broader 2023 statement that she did not co-parent with any of the fathers. The accounts refer to different points in time; the available reports do not explain whether or when the arrangement changed.
Tim Leissner: her other former husband
Leissner was Simmons’s husband and is the father of one of her sons, according to The Source’s 2023 report. In the same report, Simmons said she was not co-parenting with any of the fathers and characterized herself as raising the children on her own. In the 2023 interview reported by The Source, Simmons said, “I have beautiful children, but our necessity for [men] in our life is very minimal.” She also said, “I do everything on my own. Like I say, I’m a single mom.” These are her personal descriptions as reported in that interview, rather than verified findings about every aspect of her family’s arrangements.
The clearest comparison is therefore about what is publicly documented: two marriages and one unmarried partnership, alongside parenting accounts made at different times. Her 2012 statement about Hounsou and her 2023 general comments do not, by themselves, show what happened between those dates.
