KFC announced its Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream Soda in June 2025, with restaurant arrivals beginning June 9. The drink was pitched as KFC’s take on the dirty soda trend, with an optional vanilla cream swirl. It is a restaurant menu drink—not the packaged Dirty Mountain Dew products PepsiCo announced separately in 2026.
What was KFC’s Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream Soda?
KFC’s June 5, 2025 announcement described a new Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream Soda and said it would begin arriving at restaurants on June 9. KFC positioned it as a drink in the dirty soda trend and said customers could add a vanilla cream swirl for an extra twist.
The announcement did not publish a complete ingredient list, recipe quantities, nutrition information, or a full allergen statement. It also did not include a named spokesperson’s direct comment specifically about the beverage. KFC President Catherine Tan-Gillespie’s quoted remarks in the announcement concern the return of Fill Ups, not the soda.
Is the KFC drink still available?
The 2025 announcement establishes the planned launch, not current stock at any particular restaurant. KFC said participation and availability may vary, so check your local KFC menu or contact the restaurant before making a trip.

How is it different from packaged Dirty Mountain Dew?
PepsiCo announced packaged Dirty Mountain Dew and Dirty Mountain Dew Zero Sugar on April 7, 2026. They are separate products from KFC’s Sweet Lightning menu drink.

PepsiCo described the 2026 packaged drinks in its April 7, 2026 announcement as 20-ounce single bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans. Those formats and the citrus-and-cream description apply to the packaged products, not KFC’s earlier Peaches & Cream restaurant drink.

What does “dirty soda” mean here?
KFC used the term to frame its Sweet Lightning launch, and the optional vanilla cream swirl is the specific customization it announced. The company did not provide a recipe or say that the drink follows one fixed formula, so the announcement does not establish more detail about its preparation.
PepsiCo’s 2026 announcement said Yelp searches for “dirty soda” had surged more than 600% year over year. That figure is reported by PepsiCo and attributed to Yelp, but PepsiCo did not link to a first-party Yelp report or give the exact comparison dates. It should be read as a claim in PepsiCo’s announcement, not as a directly documented Yelp statistic. Michael Smith, Mountain Dew’s VP of Marketing, called dirty soda “exactly that moment” in the same announcement; that is brand marketing language, not independent evidence of the trend.
