Kevin Durand said he wanted to play Elon Musk in A24’s reported biopic, but he had not been approached about the film when he discussed it in April 2024. He said he was ready to reach out to director Darren Aronofsky; that was an expression of interest, not a casting announcement.
What Kevin Durand said about the role
During press for Abigail, Durand told io9 that people often mistook him for Musk. He said owning a Cybertruck added to the comparisons. Asked whether anyone had approached him about the biopic, he replied, “Has anyone approached me? I mean, everyone on the street, people ask me all the time.” He then expressed interest in contacting Aronofsky, one of his favorite directors: “I’m ready for you Darren.” Durand also joked, “Because, Elon looks like he’s my brother.” io9’s April 17, 2024 interview records the remarks.
The comments explain why Durand was being discussed as a possible Musk: his own account of the resemblance and his interest in the part. They do not show that he contacted the director, received an offer, or joined the cast.
What was reported about A24’s Musk biopic
In November 2023, a report summarized by IMDb News and attributed there to The Hollywood Reporter said A24 was developing a biopic based on Walter Isaacson’s biography Elon Musk, with Aronofsky attached to direct and produce through Protozoa Pictures. IMDb News’ summary is the available source for that project context.

That reported premise connects the project to Isaacson’s biography, but the reporting cited here does not establish a finished film, a release date, or any casting announcement for Durand.
What later coverage does—and does not—confirm
In December 2025, Variety reported that Aronofsky responded “Who?” when asked about the rumored Musk film. The exchange was presented jokingly; it does not establish whether the project was active, paused, or abandoned. Variety’s December 10, 2025 report therefore does not settle the film’s status.

A 2025 Spanish-language article described Durand as a possible candidate while saying his casting was not certain. It revisited his earlier comments rather than announcing a new development. Cinemanía’s report is not confirmation that he was cast or offered the role.
On the reporting available through December 2025, Durand’s casting remains unconfirmed, and the project’s current production status is unresolved. The accurate description is that he publicly expressed interest in 2024.
