Two days later, she also said she believed other women who did not look like her had not been scolded or pushed off the red carpet. That comparison was Rowland’s account; the available footage and reporting do not independently establish what the worker said or why she acted as she did.
What happened between Kelly Rowland and the security guard at Cannes?
At the May 21, 2024 premiere of Marcello Mio during the Cannes Film Festival, Rowland was photographed and filmed on the red carpet. Sky News described footage in which a female security worker guided Rowland toward the stairs while she posed. Rowland appeared upset and pointed toward the worker before going inside. The clip shows movement and gestures, but does not establish the full exchange or the worker’s words. Sky News, May 24, 2024
What did Kelly Rowland say about the Cannes security guard video?
At the amfAR gala in Antibes on May 23, Rowland spoke to the Associated Press about the incident. AP reported her saying: “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. And, I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it.”
Rowland also said she believed other women on the carpet who “did not quite look like me” had not been scolded, pushed off, or told to leave. She added that she stood her ground while the worker stood hers. These are Rowland’s statements and perception of the encounter, not an independently established finding about differential treatment. What does the footage establish—and what remains unclear?
Video descriptions support that an apparent exchange took place as Rowland was being guided toward the theater. They do not settle what prompted it. TheWrap noted that the worker’s back was turned toward the camera, leaving her words unclear; its description of contact with Rowland’s arm and the dress is a reporter’s account of visible footage, not proof of intent. TheWrap, May 23, 2024
The reviewed reports contain no direct statement from the security worker and no official finding by the Cannes Film Festival. Sky News said it approached Rowland and the festival for comment, but its report did not include a response. Accordingly, claims about the worker’s words, motive, or view of the encounter cannot be stated as fact.
