What happened during the concert?
Clarkson told the story on The Kelly Clarkson Show, describing a tour performance when a clip on her skirt broke. “I had something happen on tour once where my skirt, the clip broke and it dropped, and I dropped so fast,” she said, according to Us Weekly’s April 16, 2025, account.
She added, “Long story short, I was commando.” Clarkson was singing “Breakaway” when it happened, AOL reported on April 14, 2025. She said someone came onstage to pin the outfit back together. Later that same night, she stepped on glass, according to Us Weekly.
When did Clarkson retell the story?
Clarkson shared the anecdote on the April 11, 2025, episode of her talk show while speaking with Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren, who were promoting The Last Five Years. The conversation turned to performance mishaps after Jonas described splitting his pants during rehearsal. Clarkson’s story was her own separate incident.

As AOL reported, Clarkson ended her recollection with a wry takeaway: “Anyway, it happens though, and you just have to keep swimming.” The reports do not identify the tour, concert date, or venue where her skirt fell.
How this differs from her earlier wardrobe story
Clarkson has shared another onstage clothing mishap, but it was a different incident. In 2023, she told Shania Twain that during a quick change on tour, something was not secured and her dress nearly came off while she was jumping around. Fox News reported on that conversation on February 2, 2023. That near-miss should not be confused with the broken skirt clip she described in 2025.
