After authorities announced arrests and charges in the investigation into Matthew Perry’s death on August 15, 2024, Keith Morrison and his family said they remained heartbroken, were reassured that law enforcement had taken the case seriously, and hoped justice would take its course.
What Keith Morrison’s family said
The Morrison family’s response, reported by Yahoo Entertainment, said: “We were and still are heartbroken by Matthew’s death, but it has helped to know law enforcement has taken his case very seriously.” The statement continued: “We look forward to justice taking its course.”
The remarks were attributed to the family in a statement, not to a direct interview with Morrison. They conveyed grief over Perry’s death, appreciation for the seriousness of the investigation, and hope that the legal process would proceed.
Why the arrests were announced
Perry died at his Los Angeles home on October 28, 2023. On August 15, 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice announced charges against five people in connection with the ketamine supply and administration described in the case. The DOJ said Jasveen Sangha and Dr. Salvador Plasencia were arrested that day; the other defendants named were Erik Fleming, Dr. Mark Chavez, and Kenneth Iwamasa. What happened after the family’s August 2024 response
The later developments below were not yet known when the Morrison family issued its reaction. They reflect subsequent court outcomes reported by the DOJ:
- Kenneth Iwamasa was sentenced to 41 months in prison. DOJ sentencing release
- Jasveen Sangha was sentenced to 180 months in prison. DOJ sentencing release
Those sentences belong to the later course of the case; they should not be read back into the family’s August 2024 statement, which followed the initial arrests and charging announcement.
