Her answer was reported by The Guardian and TheWrap. The question concerned boycott calls; it does not establish that she was unaware of every debate about J.K. Rowling.
What Keira Knightley said about the boycott
The Guardian reported Knightley’s response to the question, “some fans are calling for a Harry Potter boycott”: “I was not aware of that, no. I’m very sorry. You know, I think we’re all living in a period of time right now where we’re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren’t we? And we’ve all got very different opinions.” The outlet also reported that she added, “I hope that we can all find respect.”

What the boycott calls relate to
The Guardian connected calls to boycott Rowling’s work with her reaction to a UK Supreme Court ruling on the legal definition of a woman and described ongoing public disagreement over her views on trans rights. Variety likewise characterized the calls as a response to Rowling’s statements about the transgender community. These are summaries of a contested public debate as presented by those outlets, not a measure of who participated or what effect the calls had.
The cited coverage does not establish the number of people who joined a boycott or whether it affected Harry Potter sales. Knightley’s reported answer addresses whether she knew of calls from some fans; it should not be treated as a statement about her awareness of the broader controversy.
