You keep Audible audiobooks you purchased with a credit or payment after cancelling your membership, and you can download them again. Titles you accessed only through the included catalog are different: they become unavailable when membership ends, even if they are in your Library or downloaded. Before cancelling, check which kind of access applies to each title and use any credits you want to keep.
These details reflect Audible’s US help guidance; billing, credits, plans, and cancellation rules may differ in other marketplaces.
Which Audible books stay in your Library after cancellation?
The distinction is whether you acquired a title as a purchase or accessed it as a membership benefit. Audible says titles bought with a credit or payment remain in your Library after cancellation and can be downloaded again.

As Audible puts it, purchased titles “will always be available in your Library whether you’re a current member or not.” That statement applies to titles purchased with a credit or payment, not to included-catalog titles.

How to check your titles and prepare before cancelling
- Check how each title is classified. In your Library, distinguish titles you purchased from those marked as included or member access. Not everything visible in the Library is owned.
- Use any credits you want to keep. Redeem them for books before your membership ends. Audible says unused credits generally expire with membership benefits at the end of the final billing cycle. It documents an exception for credits from memberships billed through Apple or Google, which remain after cancellation; check your account’s billing route and terms.
- Decide what to do about included titles you want to keep. If Audible offers a purchase option for a title, buying it separately changes it from membership access to a purchase. Audible cautions that a title may no longer be carried, so a purchase option is not guaranteed.
- Cancel through the company that bills you. If Audible bills you directly, use the Membership details page on Audible’s website and confirm cancellation. If Apple or Google bills the membership, cancel it through the relevant store. Deleting the Audible app does not cancel the subscription.
What happens to included-catalog books you downloaded?
They become inaccessible after cancellation, even if you downloaded them for offline listening or added them to your Library. Audible says included-catalog titles are also unavailable while membership is paused, and a title may leave the catalog while you are a member. A download is therefore not proof of ownership.
Should you pause or cancel?
Pausing may be a temporary alternative for eligible members, but it does not preserve access to included-catalog titles during the pause. Audible’s help page says eligible monthly memberships can pause for up to 90 days total in a 12-month period; annual memberships are not eligible. Plan and billing-channel limits apply.

Use pause if you qualify and want a temporary break, understanding that included titles will be unavailable during it. Cancel if you want to end the membership. Audible’s pause guidance has the current eligibility and account steps.
