The latest substantiated update on Constantine 2 is that another screenplay draft was ready to go to the studio for feedback, according to Keanu Reeves in October 2025. That is progress in development, not confirmation that the film has been approved for production. Days later, DC Studios co-head James Gunn was reported as saying he had discussed the project with Reeves but had not read a script. The sources cited here establish no filming start or release date as of October 8, 2026.
What is the latest update on Constantine 2?
In October 2025, Reeves said another draft had arrived and would be taken to the studio in the hope that it would be well received. His exact update was: “Fingers crossed. Another draft of the script came in. We’re gonna take it to the studio and hopefully they like it too.” Read the October 2025 report.

On October 21, 2025, Gunn was reported as saying he had spoken with Reeves about the project but had not read a script. That is a reported comment about the status at that time—not a cancellation or a final decision on the film. Read the report on Gunn’s remarks.
Is Constantine 2 actually happening?
The sequel has advanced into screenplay development, but the available updates do not establish a production greenlight. The milestones matter: Reeves said DC Studios had given the team permission to try writing a script, and later said a new draft would go to the studio for feedback. Neither statement confirms that the script was approved, that production was authorized, or that filming began. Reeves’ February 2025 comments and his October update support those development steps; Gunn’s subsequent reported comment that he had not read a script underscores that studio approval was not established by the cited reports. What have Reeves and director Francis Lawrence said about the story?
Reeves has described the sequel as taking place in the same world as the 2005 film and said John Constantine would be “tortured even more.” The sources do not provide a detailed plot synopsis. See Reeves’ comments.
In a DC interview published February 18, 2025, Lawrence said the team was “the closest we’ve ever been to making a sequel” and that they knew it would be R-rated. He also said it would stay “within our world of Constantine.” Those remarks describe the creative direction Lawrence had in mind; they do not amount to confirmation that filming was approved. Who is attached, and is the original cast returning?
Reeves is associated with returning as John Constantine, Lawrence with directing, and Akiva Goldsman is reported as writing. The cited reporting does not confirm which other members of the original cast, if any, will return. Lawrence’s interview, Reeves’ February comments, and the October update discuss the project, but do not establish a supporting-cast lineup.
When will Constantine 2 come out?
No release date or window is established by the cited updates, and they do not report a filming start. Until production is confirmed and a release plan is announced, there is no substantiated date to give.

How does the sequel relate to the original film?
Constantine (2005) is based on DC Comics/Vertigo’s Hellblazer graphic novels. DC identifies Reeves as John Constantine and Lawrence as director of the original film. See DC’s film page. For viewers who want to revisit the 2005 movie, DC’s 2025 interview notes that it is available digitally in 4K Ultra HD and on 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc; that availability information is about the original, not the sequel.
