At the time of the interview, Perry said Smile had already been released during the pandemic. After putting out “When I’m Gone” with Alesso, she said she had focused on her Las Vegas residency. She also spoke about missing performances for fans who could not travel to Las Vegas.
Would she take Play on tour or tour Smile?
Perry said she expected her next world tour would be built around new music, rather than simply taking the Play residency on the road or touring Smile. How Perry described the Play residency
Play was a theatrical, colorful show at Resorts World Las Vegas, pairing familiar songs with playful storytelling about self-love. Rolling Stone Italia’s 16 October 2022 republication says Perry opened the residency’s fifth run on 5 October 2022.
Perry emphasized that the performance could change from night to night. She said she spoke differently with the audience each evening, invited people onstage and improvised. The theater’s smaller scale, in her view, helped the crowd feel close to the show. The interview also mentions that she could change costumes in a minute and a half; that detail is her account, not an independently measured production specification.

Perry’s story about Dua Lipa
Perry recalled that during her first season on American Idol, she left work early to see Dua Lipa at the Hollywood Palladium. Perry said she had recognized Lipa’s potential as a future pop star before her colleague Luke Bryan knew who she was. This is Perry’s recollection of the moment, rather than an independently documented exchange.
The interview’s question also referred to a video of Lipa as a child joining Perry onstage during the California Dreams Tour. Perry’s Palladium anecdote and that childhood-stage reference are distinct moments.
