Their story began on a commercial set, not with a public announcement. In a 2017 interview with Vogue, Upton said, “We met filming a commercial for Major League Baseball,” adding, “After that, we were friends.” Us Weekly identifies the shoot as the February 2012 MLB 2K12 commercial.
When they were first linked publicly
Us Weekly dates their public debut to January 2013, during a New Year’s vacation in St. Thomas. That marks when their relationship entered public coverage, not necessarily when they considered themselves an official couple.

Us Weekly reports that Upton and Verlander split in June 2013. E! News later described the relationship as having fizzled by July. These are retrospective outlet accounts; neither establishes a direct public statement from Upton or Verlander announcing a breakup.

January 2014: reported reunion
Us Weekly says the pair reunited in the Bahamas in January 2014. In Vogue’s 2017 interview, Upton characterized 2014 as the point when they “became official.” The reunion date comes from Us Weekly’s reported chronology; the official-relationship year comes from Upton’s own later description. Together, those accounts explain why a meeting in 2012, public dating reports in 2013, and an official relationship date in 2014 are not interchangeable.
Engagement in 2016
Upton debuted her engagement ring at the Met Gala in May 2016 and confirmed that Verlander had proposed shortly before the baseball season. E! News reported her explanation that they had kept the news quiet: “I’m really excited, he asked me right before season started so we’ve been keeping it on the down low for quite a while.”

In Vogue’s 2017 account, Upton said Verlander proposed at sunset on a boat in Turks and Caicos after a day of exploring and jet skiing. She described him as romantic and said the couple had dated for about a year and a half before he proposed.
Wedding in Tuscany in November 2017
The wedding weekend followed an unusually tight baseball schedule. Verlander’s Houston Astros played Game 7 of the World Series on November 2, 2017; the wedding was scheduled for November 4 in Tuscany. Vogue reported that Upton cheered from the stands while family and guests were already in Italy. The couple married at Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco.
Upton told Vogue that she and Verlander wanted the celebration to feel like a vacation with close friends and family. The plans included group games, a red-themed rehearsal dinner, a garden ceremony, and a reception with fireworks, music, and late-night karaoke. Upton also said she collaborated with Valentino on her ceremony gown.

2018: daughter Genevieve
Upton and Verlander welcomed their first child after their wedding. Us Weekly identifies their daughter as Genevieve and reports that she was born in November 2018.
2025: son Bellamy
Us Weekly’s updated timeline reports that the couple welcomed a son, Bellamy, in 2025. The reviewed coverage does not give an exact birth date, so a more specific date cannot be established here.
