What did Moir tell police?
As recounted by PerthNow, Hancock remembered Moir giving a detailed account of how she had been taken and held. Hancock said Moir also remembered the name David Birnie from a medicine bottle, despite false names being used around her. Hancock recalled pressing senior officers to investigate. These details come from Hancock’s retrospective account in the newspaper, rather than an independently reviewed police file.
How did police corroborate her account?
PerthNow reported that police found chains and handcuffs and verified details Moir had described, including a Rocky tape in the VCR and drawings hidden beneath a mattress. The report also says the Birnies led police to the graves of four women. Those reported findings show why Hancock considered Moir’s account urgent; the reunion story, however, centres on the lasting connection between the two women.
