She did not say that treatment completion meant she was cured or fully recovered. Instead, she said her path to healing remained long and that she was taking recovery one day at a time.
What Catherine announced on September 9, 2024
In a public statement reported by PEOPLE, Catherine said she had “completed my chemotherapy treatment.” She described the preceding period in personal terms: “The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family.”
The announcement was a milestone in her treatment, but it was not presented as a declaration of full recovery. Catherine said, “Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
What is known about her diagnosis and treatment
In March 2024, Catherine said that tests following abdominal surgery had found cancer. Her medical team advised what she called a course of “preventative chemotherapy,” according to contemporaneous reporting by E! News.

The public statements covered by those reports do not identify the type of cancer, the specific medicines used, the number of cycles, or a detailed prognosis. Those medical details should not be inferred from the announcement.
Why finishing chemotherapy does not automatically mean a cure
Completing a planned chemotherapy course means the treatment phase described in the statement had ended. It does not, by itself, establish that cancer has been eliminated, that the disease is in remission, or that recovery is complete. Catherine’s own wording was more cautious: she said she was doing what she could “to stay cancer free” while continuing a long recovery.

Her description reflects the difference between finishing active treatment and completing follow-up care. Recovery can involve monitoring, managing side effects, rebuilding strength and attending further appointments. The statement did not provide clinical results that would allow a more specific medical conclusion.
What she said about returning to public life
Catherine expressed an intention to resume work gradually. She said she was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.” That was an indication of hoped-for activity, not a confirmed schedule or promise of a particular appearance.

Any future engagements would depend on her health and medical recovery. The September statement did not set out dates, venues or a timetable.
The family impact she emphasized
Catherine also described the emotional uncertainty surrounding serious illness, saying, “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you.” Her reference to the last nine months concerned her family as a whole, rather than offering a clinical account of her condition.
