Prince William, Catherine, and their children moved into Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park during the children’s half-term break in late October 2025, according to reporting published on 2 November. The “celebrate” element came from a separate report of a thank-you gathering for builders and staff—not an official Palace announcement.
When did the family move into Forest Lodge?
Kensington Palace confirmed the planned move on 16 August 2025, saying, “The Wales family will move house later this year.” ITV reported Forest Lodge as the destination. At the time, the Palace did not give an exact date, as ABC News noted.
On 2 November, The Independent reported that the family had moved during Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis’s half-term break. The family had reportedly aimed to complete the move by Bonfire Night. These were events in 2025, not a move announced or underway now.
What was the reported celebration?
On 3 November, LBC reported that a thank-you gathering for builders and staff had taken place at the York Club, near Forest Lodge, on the preceding Friday. LBC relayed an account from a source quoted by MailOnline, who said the couple wanted to thank those who had worked on the move. The gathering was not a Palace-confirmed public celebration, and the account relies on an unnamed source rather than an on-record statement from William or Catherine.

What is Forest Lodge?
Forest Lodge is an eight-bedroom, Grade II-listed property in Windsor Great Park, according to ITV and Sky News coverage in 2025. The family moved from Adelaide Cottage, also in the Windsor area, making this a local move.
ITV reported that redacted local planning applications allowed minor internal and external changes, including removing a window and work to a fireplace. ITV and Sky News also noted a major restoration in 2001. ITV put that restoration cost at £1.5 million and reported that the property was later offered for rent at £15,000 per month. That is historical rental context, not a current rent quote.

What is known about the costs?
ITV reported that the family was understood to pay for Forest Lodge and its renovations, and to pay market rent. Sky News also reported that they were paying for the property and minor renovations, citing a newspaper report. Neither account is an official financial statement from the family, so the arrangements should be understood as reported rather than independently confirmed.
Coverage also cited an estimated £16 million valuation. It was an estimate, not a confirmed sale price. The historic £15,000 monthly rental figure followed the 2001 restoration and should not be read as the family’s current rent.

Did the move replace the family’s other homes?
No such conclusion follows from the move. ITV and Sky News reported that the family also have Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The reporting does not establish that either residence was sold or relinquished.
