The Independent’s March 19 report also places the incident against the background of West and Jay-Z’s repeated public fallouts and reconciliations.
How the posts coincided with Bully
On March 20, Variety reported that West had shared a test version of Bully through several full-length film versions linked from X. Variety also reported West’s description of the album as “not finished and half the vocals AI”; that is his claim, not an independently verified technical assessment of the recordings.
#1 Best Overall
- Kanye West- College Dropout
The album material and the inflammatory posts appeared in the same period, but the reports do not show that West attacked the family as a deliberate marketing tactic. The distinction matters: documented timing is not proof of promotional intent.
Variety’s March 20 report describes the test-version sharing and its timing.

The reported response from Tina Knowles
The Independent reported that Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, posted an Instagram video and caption hours after the remarks. The outlet quoted the caption: “It’s hard to remain positive and classy in the face of ignorance and evil.” The report says the caption was later edited. The reporting cited here does not establish a direct statement from Jay-Z or Beyoncé about this particular episode.
The Independent’s March 20 follow-up covers Knowles’s post and West’s stated grievances.
Rank #3
The longer public relationship between West and Jay-Z
The Independent traces West and Jay-Z’s first meeting to 2000 and describes a relationship marked by repeated estrangements and reconciliations. West has said he was hurt when Jay-Z and Beyoncé did not attend his 2014 wedding. In discussing his feelings, West also connected them to wanting support in matters involving his children. These are reported accounts of West’s perspective, not verified explanations for the couple’s decisions.
The same follow-up notes that Jay-Z called West his “little brother” in a 2018 interview with David Letterman. That remark offers context for their on-and-off public relationship, but does not establish the state of their private relationship today.
