Kakuda is a Hindi comedy-horror film directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, built around a village curse and a weekly ritual. In Scroll.in, critic Nandini Ramnath characterizes its scares as mild and its comedy as plentifully silly: a better fit for viewers after light genre entertainment than intense horror.
What is Kakuda about?
The story takes place in Ratodi, a village living under a curse. A small door must be left open for Kakuda every Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. When the ritual is not followed, the curse brings consequences, and a group sets out to uncover its origin. That simple rule gives the film a comic-horror engine: the villagers must take a strange supernatural threat seriously even as the premise invites absurdity. ZEE5’s film listing identifies it as a ZEE5 Original and describes the ritual.
How scary is it, and how much comedy is there?
Ramnath’s review for Scroll.in gives the clearest guide to the tone: “The movie has very mild scares, ample tomfoolery, and no ambition of being anything beyond a time-passer.” That is one critic’s assessment, not a universal measure of how frightening the film will feel. Still, it sets expectations: the horror is not the main draw in this reading; the silliness and comic situations carry much of the experience.
Ramnath also compares the film’s template with Stree. That is the critic’s framing of its genre approach, not a claim that the films are identical. Viewers weighing the two may find it more useful to consider the balance of scares and comedy, the curse’s originality, and how predictable the screenplay feels.

The response is not uniformly positive. Ramnath finds value in the lightweight, silly entertainment, while the criticism summarized in Rotten Tomatoes’ listing includes complaints about predictability, an unengaging screenplay, and limited entertainment value. Those are different judgments about the same broad issue: whether the comic premise and performances make up for a familiar or insufficiently engaging story. The available evidence does not justify treating one review or an aggregator score as a definitive verdict.
Who is in the cast, and who directed it?
Aditya Sarpotdar directed Kakuda. The listed performers include Riteish Deshmukh, Sonakshi Sinha, Saqib Saleem, and Aasif Khan. ZEE5’s listing provides the release and premise information, while Apple TV’s India listing identifies the film’s cast and credits.
